Surnames: doyle mckinnon
I am trying to find out the birth parents of my maternal grandmother? Her adopted name was Mary Veronica Mckinnon. She had 4 siblings which I am not sure if they were adopted as well or not. They lived in Hastings. I was always told she was of Indian or possibly South American descent, but I assume that was a guess. I am new to all this and am having a hard time finding anything. Can someone help me please? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Only Mary Victoria McKinnon I find on Ancestry.ca was born 7 Feb 1902 to Jas K McKinnon and Bridget Murray. Hastings County.
This was a registered birth.
Also registered was Thomas Davis, b 14 Jan 1905 Hastings.
There is another brother Frances John listed on census but I did not find a birth registration for him.

Do you have a birth date for your Mary Victoria McKinnon?

I don't unfortunately. I was trying to figure it out. It's Mary Veronica not Victoria. I don't know if that will help.

Sorry, it is Mary Veronica McKinnon that I found on Ancestry.ca
Don't know why I wrote Victoria.
Do you know when she died? Her headstone would likely have a year date on it.
Her marriage registration should have an age on it.

Are you sure she was adopted?
There is a government registration for her birth with parents James McKinnon and Bridget Murray.

A family tree says that Jorhn Norman Doyle died 1974 in Detroit Co Wayne Michigan USA and immigrated to the US in 1928.

I can't help with any US records.

Who's family tree is it? Everyone ( my brothers and sisters) say she was adopted. She died just before I was born. My mother and father are deceased so there is no one to ask so I thought I could find some more info on ancestry. Thank you that info is more than I had myself.

Hi Hopefully - not to confuse the issue. Don't know when Legal Adoptions began in Ontario.

If this was a Legal Adoption .Lawyers etc.
There would be paperwork - etc - Because of Privacy Issues - the paperwork would be sealed - and not available without legal intervention .
A New Birth Registration / Certificate would be issued - in the new name -
Some adoptive parents give the child a different / preferred given name - rather than the name chosen at birth.
Many adopted children - never did know of the adoption - during their lifetime - others may have been told - others - by accident ,
Unlike the adoptions of today - where information is more open

Many Provinces now - allow access to the adoption papers - to the Adoptee - and perhaps close family members.

Your brothers and sisters say she was adopted - what is their source of information ? word of mouth ? or documentation. of some sort.

What religion did the family follow ? Baptism information - when / where etc - might help.
Is there a family bible - or other form of documenting births, marriages , deaths, birthdays etc
Family Photographs - some families - may have entered names, info on the backs of old photo's

Hope I haven't confused.
