I'm trying to find out what became of my great-grandmother ALWINE BANKS (nee MAURER/MAURIER) who joined her siblings in FORT ERIE from Glasgow, Scotland in the 1940's.

Contact was lost in the 1960's when we presume she passed away, but don't know when or if there are any of her brother ARTHUR MAURER/MAURIER's descendants in that area or possibly moved to the United States.

I am in England (richard.gurney@aol.co.uk)

Hi,

In Ontario, Canada, marriage records are available to 1928 and death records to 1938.

I think I have found Alwine on the Ontario Voters Lists for 1963.

Ontario Voters Lists – Fort Erie, Niagara Falls District – 1963
10 (Lower) Embrick Avenue
Mrs. Alwine Woodrow, Irvin Air Chute (Occupation) (Note: this was a parachute company)

Hope this helps

Jane

Edit to add - Also found in the 1957 Voter’s List, same address, listed as widow, 1958 listed as Clerk, same address.

Hi,

I may be way off here but found this headstone image in Greenwood Cemetery, Fort Erie (same cemetery the Maurier family is in).

http://www.canadianheadstones.com/on/view.php?id=356221

It is for Alvine K. Woodrow – 1893 – 1973. I wonder if an error was made on the headstone and if it could be your Alwine? You could contact the cemetery and ask the information on this grave. (I tried to find an email but couldn’t. You may find one by digging around more.)

Hi Jane,

Many thanks for all this information, it's most helpful and interesting! The dates for the siblings fits in so although it says Alvine instead of Alwine I think it must be the right person to be in the same cemetery with such a similar name and age.

I shall pursue it further. Thank you so much for your help, it is much appreciated!

Kind regards,

Richard
