The best cemetery record site I have found is the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery http://www.gravemarkers.ca
Use the search engine there by putting in the name followed by a star eg. hurd* There are TONS of Hurds in the Parry Sound area and they all turn up with this kind of search - then you can check out each link and actually see the headstone you want! This is even better than using the book at the library, I have found, as all the cemeteries around here are already photographed!
Happy hunting!

Yes, the book is a great resource - as long as the person had a headstone. If you get a copy of the cemetery plan you can see everyone who is buried, not just who has headstones - found my gg grandfather this way! Bracebridge United plan is available from the town office but they gave me a bit of a hassle about privacy issues - honestly, everyone there is dead and you can see all the headstones when you visit - haha!
And yes, the cemetery is on Santa's Village Road right next to Annie Williams Park - first left after the bridge as you are entering town on Hwy 118.
Bring blackfly repellent! LOL

If there is no headstone you will have to get in touch with the Town of Barcebridge and get them to look it up on their map of the cemetery. They had to do that for me but they were not really very nice about it. They found my greatgrandmother or tere abouts and then sent me the location and I found a large mound of dirt on top of her and the only way to get them to move it was to get them to install corner stones. Good luck finding your family. Still looking for one of mine that is probably there but have not had luck as they were not very obliging.

Yes, it really is an embarrassment regarding how difficult they make it to do lookups on the cemetery plan. I have visited other cemeteries in other municipalities and have been treated so WELL by comparison. I think the town did not WANT to take on this responsibility and they let you know it. If you have a good experience here, please share so the rest of us will know how to go about it or to whom we should speak!

Amen to that. Other areas bent over backwards. Huntsville even had them looked up and ribboned for me. So much difference.

Come in Highway 118 West from Highway 11. Go through the first set of stoplights which are right before the bridge. Directly after the bridge, turn left at the first street (which only goes left). It is Santa's Village Road. The cemetery is less than a kilometer down, on your left. You can pull right in. It is a small cemetery and quite walkable. If you want a site plan to find your ancestor directly, you need to get one from the town hall.
