Contact the Ontario Historical Society at 416-226-9011. They can send you a photocopy of The Migration of Voyageurs From Drummond Island To Penetanguishene In 1828. This copy mentions The Giroux family and other French voyageurs who fought in the War of 1812. They all settled in the Muskoka, Parry Sound up to Sudbury region. Some married into the Indian bands in the area. Some of them came with Indian wives/partners. Check the word Anishnawbe that is the word this Algonquian language.

Napierville/LaPrairie is close to a Mohawk reserve. Depending also on what year you are talking about. Great Lake Indians used to canoe down to Montreal to trade.
