That seems to fit with the abbreviated 1901 census report that showed James Gilmore (with 1 L) living in St Catherines and having a 1868 birthday. The 1881 census that you found even shows James father as William and his occupation as black smith. My grandfather grew up using the Gilmore spelling with only 1 L, but changed it to Gillmore with 2 Ls when he had grown up. Maybe the change came after he visited his father and learned that he spelled the name as Gillmore. Sandy you do good work.

Debbie...I appreciate yours and Sandy's help immensely. Anything that I can learn about this branch is a great help. I wasn't aware of any of the information that I have received in the last few days. The puzzle seems to be falling into place.

Hi Ed,

I walked through North Pelham First Presbyterian Church cemetery and the Brethern in Christ cemetery, which is also on Metlar road. I did not find any Gilmore's or Gillmore's. There was a few older stones I could not read. But they were very old, and most of them in family plots. I stopped at Pelham library, they did not have cemetery transcripts. They suggested I try Welland library. Below are the names of cemeteries that Welland has listed for Pelham. Next time I go to Welland library, I will see if they have transcripts for them.

Beckett Plot
Brown Burial Plot
Crow Family
Hansler Cemetery
North Pelham First Presbyterian Church
Pelham Evangelical
Pelham Hicksite
Schram Cemetery

Sandy...Thank you for your efforts. I really hate to ask you to do anything else. If you have the opportunity to check at the Welland Library without going out of your way, I would be gratefull. (But only if you can do it without inconveniencing yourself.)

Surnames: Schram/Schramm/Scram
I was wondering if you have anymore information on the Schram Cemetery. I am doing my family tree and am at a loss for information reguarding the Schrams. Do you know if there is a list of names for that cemetery? My grandfather was William Chester Schram who later changed his last name to Lloyd and was raised in Gosfield Ontario area. I have alot of old pictures of family members that once belonged to him. I know he was one of 11 children and four of them died under the age of 25. Any info would really be appreciated.

Sorry, but I don't have any information regarding the Schram cemetery. My only suggestion would be to contact the Pelham Historical Society to see if they can help. Good luck in your search.

Hi Ed,
I too am James T. Gilmore's great-granchild, but from his second wife,Charlotte Thorld. They had three daughters, Julia, Florence and Grace. Florence Gilmore is my grandmother. I have a small family history written by Mrs. Florence (Abell) Baldwin, James' niece. I don't have any info entered on my computer, so I would have to mail you a copy for now. I'm so glad to hear from you. My father knew that there was a son from the first marriage, but never knew what happened to him.
