I think Sylvester Hartman was my great grandfather on my mother's side. My mother was Ida Hartman, daughter of Stanley Hartman, the son of Sylvester Hartman and Caroline Clare.
My mother knew her Dad's mother was a Clare, and that there was a Medical Doctor in the Clare family, but didn't know where he/she fit in. Also, she knew that either the Clares or Hartmans were UE Loyalists. In one census I found, it listed my grandfather (Stanley) as being a 12-year-old living with his aunt Matilda Clare, along with 3 other siblings. I'm trying to find out why the children were living with Matilda (Caroline's sister) instead of with their own parents. And does anyone know if Sylvester remarried? And were all the children full brothers and sisters?
