Re: George Young married Isabelle Johnston
Dear Sir Could you explain to me why the Anglican Church of Canada, the Diocese of Ontario, has a record of Henry Young and Nancy Dyer of the sixth township of Catarakwe(written as per the record) as being married on the 30th of August in 1791 by Rev Langhorn Parish of Bath and Ernestown? This couple also had five children baptized in the parish of Bath and Ernestown John Henry Feb 18, 1795, Katreen Sept 27 1796, Hiram Feb 26 1799, George Feb 24 1800 and Mary D. Feb 23 1803. I do not have any siblings by the name of William, Richard or Daniel for my George Young as you have described in your post of the Henry/George Young of Prince Edward Co. line My George married an Isabelle Johnston born 1803 and they produced John, James(1833), William H (Mar 15 1834-Jan 18 1915)Emily Isobel (Oct 18 1835-Dec 3 1908) Ester(May 1838-Dec 30 1895) Eliza(1846). My father who was born in 1906 and died in 1986 always said his grgrandparents name on his grandmother Youngs side was George and Nancy Young(nee Dyre) I will however see if I can locate Mr Peter Johnston as you suggested. Best regards Laura

Re: Henry Young and Nancy Dyre
Let me quote some of your own scripture back to you. Bill Martin's site has a copy of the Register of Rev. John Langhorn. He states:
"The Registers of Marriages, Baptisms, and Burials of Rev. John Langhorn . His registers cover a large number of these events in the District of Mecklenburg, which includes the townships of: Ernest Town, Kingston, Fredericksburg, Adolphustown, Camden, Marysburg, Sophiesburg, Ameliasburg, Sydney, Thurlow, Richmond . Years covered are 1788 to 1813."
Information is provided on the nomenclature used regarding naming of various towns as sixth, etc. This states:
"Memorandum of the proper names of the Townships or Towns of the District of Mecklenburg in the Province or Quebec, made on October 11th, 1788.
Kingston, the first; Ernest Town the second, Fredericksburgh the third, Adolphus Town the fourth, Marysburgh the fifth, Sophiasburgh the sixth, Ameliasburgh the seventh, Sydney the eighth, Thurlow the ninth, Richmond the tenth, Camden the eleventh. There is another north east of Catarakwee or Kingston called Pittsburg, but I do not know its number. Cadarakin, Cataraqui, or Catarakwee, formerly Fort Frontenac, but now Kingston, is at or near the south east corner of the First Township, or Kingstown."
You will note that Sophiasburgh is the Sixth Town, which is in Prince Edward.
Then, with respect to Henry Young & Nancy Dyre it states: "Henry Young, sixth; Nancy Dyre, same, 30 August, 1791 Elijah Miller, John Richard, jr., Archd. Campbell, Jennet Campbell."
This means that both Henry Young and Nancy Dyre were of Sophiasburgh.
Peter Johnson is the Editor of the Loyalist Gazette. Their web site provides this address for him: Peter Johnson UE Editor, The Loyalist Gazette 751 Will Johnson Rd., R.R. # 1 Frankford, ON. Canada K0K 1C0
I wish you success in sorting out your family tree. I also found that my family passed down many things about the family that were not true.

Re: Nancy Dyre - Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward Co.
I just happened to come across some further proof that Nancy Dyre was from Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward Co., in Rev. John Langhorn's Register. In the baptisms of 1794 he lists:
Nancy, dau. of Barret and Mary Dyre and wife of Henry Young Sophiasburgh Feb. 26
|
George, son of Stephen & Anne Young
Rev. John Langhorn, Baptisms 1795
George, son Stephen and Anne Young Fredericksburgh May 17
Yours maybe?

Re: George, son of Stephen & Anne Young
I agree with Doug. The George that is the son of Henry Young and Nancy Dyer I have always thought was the George of Hallowell dob Feb 24, 1800 I think, that died very young. I thought of our George as the son of Stephen and Anne Young possibly but I have nothing to substantiate this. Norman, is this the birth year you have for the PE county Geroge? After visiting the family history centre in Trenton I saw a fairly detailed history on this Young family so I dropped Henry and Nancy is possible parents of "my" George who married Isabel Johnston.
