Sorry, I don't have either book that you mention but there are two Walter Burns listed in the Upper Canada Land Petitions- one in Lanark Township, Lanark County in 1829 and another in Dalhousie Township, Lanark C. in 1840. With the data provided online you can see images of the original petitions. Not sure if this helps you.

Hello,

You might want to try the Voters Lists. For example, I found some Coxfords here:

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=...

Note that the alphabetical order is often out of whack in these lists, so you need to have a sharp eye!

Street addresses are not given, but the description of the polling station boundaries, paired with a map, will give you an idea where these people were.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

I don't think this is the same Percy Hay, since Percy was still alive in 1975. I know this because a few of the employees working at the Town of Carleton Place remembered him alive and the dairy still operational. He was still running it. They said he was older and fully grey...seemed to think he passed in the early 80's.

Ok, after looking at this, we know that 1871 is my Alexander and Margaret. I think 1861 is cousin Alexander as he married Catherine Norton about 1852. His parents were William and Mary with William born Mar 6, 1805 in Scotland and Mary Ferguson born Aug 5, 1804 in Scotland. William and Mary did have a daughter Jennie born 1857 (even though Mary would be 53, if I am correct)so that must be cousin Alexander on the 1881.
I have that my Alexander had parents John and Mary with John born 1802 and Mary Rae born abt. 1812, both Scotland. John died 1880 but I don't have the source.
Barbara, Elizabeth, William, Finlay, and my Jane were all siblings of Margaret. I have that Finlay died July 22, 1883. Am I wrong? Elizabeth McGill Inglis remarried to her sister Mary's widower John J. Freeman.
Peggy
Name is spelt McVicer on 1871 census. Here is what it says.
1871 Carleton Place Lanark South
McVicer
Alexander, 46, b Ont, ship's carpenter, Church of Scotland
Margaret, 38, Ireland
Emely C, 1, Ont

These are the only McVicer/McVicars listed in Lanark on 1871 census.

1861 census Pakenham Lanark
McVicker
Alexander, b Upper Canada, carpenter, 36
Catharine, 27, b Ireland
No children listed.
She must have died.

They are on the same page as a William McVicker, 55, wife Mary 55, both b Scotland and their family.

1851 has McVickers in Pakenham Lanark but no names, just initials so not much use.

1881 census Pakenham Lanark
McVICAR
Mary, 76, Scotland
Jennie, 24, Ireland
Alexander, 56, Ontario, wagon maker, widowed
This could be the same Mary as on 1861 census, age is right

Above Mary, 86, and Jennie 34, both b Ireland are on 1891 census in Pakenham.

Don't think this is the right Alexander as I just found his marriage to a Rose Ann Beaudry, in 1884, widow of Catherine Norton, parents William McVicar and Mary Ferguson. These guys are Catholic and yours are presbyterian.

I dont' see Alexander or Margaret on 1881 or 1891 census.
Aunt Barbara Harrington died 22 May 1912. Informant was a Wm Spence of Arnprior. Maybe her obituary would have some personal information on it. She died in Arnprior.
Her parents are given as Wm Spence and Barbara Baillie/Bailey.
Here are 2 marriages with same parents.

Elizabeth McGall Spence, 22, b Ireland, living Arnprior married John Inglis 30 June 1881.
Finlay Spence, 28, b Antrim Ireland married Catherine Pinkerton 12 July 1864.
He died 1920.

Elizabeth Inglis , 55,of Ottawa, widow, crossed border at Port Huron Michigan 1917. Contact in Canada: brother Wm Spence of Arnprior.

Can't find anything re Emily. Thought she may have been with other relatives but no luck.

Hi
I can't find her on the 1871 now but it looks like I did once as I have a note that Alexander, Margaret, and Emily are together in 1871. How is her surname spelled? I don't know what was going on with her. I have that her mother was still alive in 1882 and her father Alexander still alive in 1881. HIs parents John and Mary. I have been told that there are 2 Alexanders, cousins, so have to be very careful but mine was in Pakenham. In 1881, Emeline is with her aunt Barbara so perhaps the mother was ill and perhaps she was just visiting but then poof, gone. Perhaps Emeline was married before the 1891.
Thanks for your help
Peggy

Orphanage records circa 1910? Surname Vandusen.

Where would I find orphanage records for the 1908-1911 time frame? Was there an orphanage in Lanark County? The father died in 1908 and 2 of the younger children were "adopted" out. Mother and older daughters went to Watertown, NY area. Father- Wilson Vandusen of Port Elmsley; his wife- Sarah Reid.

Re: Annie May BROWN (nee: HITSMAN); Howard J. BROWN

Thank you for sharing with me Howard Brown’s obituary. I have been looking for news of him for quite a while. Although Ancestry.com only has Ontario, Canada Deaths to 1938…
http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=8946

Ontario deaths have been released to 1940, so you should be able to get a copy of Howard’s death registration, for free. Read about how to do it here…
http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/microfilm/v_dintro.aspx

It is a two-step process. You will first have to ask your local library to inter library loan the index to deaths microfilm for 1939…

MS 937, Reel 28

from the Archives of Ontario. Look up his name, place of death and date of death, and learn the registration number.
Being a bit impatient, I would also, at the same time, ask for an interlibrary loan of the Registrations of Deaths for Lanark County in 1939.
http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/microfilm/v_dgeo4_t.aspx

MS 935, Reel 626

That way, you can look up the registration number (MS 937, Reel 28) and then right away, look up the actual registration in Lanark County (MS 935, Reel 626).

Otherwise you will have to wait for Ancestry to post 1939 deaths, which might take a year or two.

So…now I know that Florence died after 1939, or after age 59. Thanks. When my curiosity gets the best of me, I may think about asking for a search.
