Captain John Forgie, Olive Steamship, Smiths Falls

Surnames: Forgie
Would anyone know if or how Capt John Forgie was connected to the family of Forgies (ie, Gilbert Forgie and his family)who were part of the Lanark Settlement in 1820? I've come across a couple of references to Capt Forgie but can't see where he fits into my family tree.

The British Whig(Kingston, ON)reports on the 14 Apr 1888 that "the steamer Olive has again changed hands, John Forgie, Smiths Falls, having sold his interest to Mr Healy for $3000". http://images.maritimehistoryofthegreatlakes.ca/15053/data

On 6 Jun 1889, The Record News (Smiths Falls) notes that "Captain Forgie, Smiths Falls, left for New York last Saturday and may possibly go to Chili [sic]. His brother-in-law [who?] has the contract of building a railway down there and he has offered Mr Forgie a good situation". http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~onlanark/NewspaperClipping... I imagine this is the same Forgie.

Many thanks,
Mary
