Barrett family/ Manderson
I am looking for any links to the Barrett family. Ernest Arthur "Art" Barrett married Edith Caroline Manderson. Wondering if there are any descendants of these two people. Art died in 1965 and is buried in the Dresden cemetery along with his wife Edith. I don't know if they ever had any children. Art is the brother of my great grandfather Harold Herbert Thomas Barrett. Contact me if you are or know of any descendants. Thanks so much!

Re: Barrett family/ Manderson
my grandmother was edith barrett. i have much history about edith and art. my mother was one of five children four of whom married and all had at least two children. my mother was grace and she had seven children. sad to say all of art and edith's children have all passed away. they are buried in london ontario, dresden ontario and nova scotia. Their names were grace, ken, ralph shirley and bud in descending order. grace became grace sutton, married h. robert sutton in 1945, shirley became shirley kirton married to jim kirton. she had two boys. ralph had two girls and one boy, ken had two girls. bud did not marry. all children have at least one child.much more information is available if you wish. many of the manderson family stayed in kent county, ontario and most have passed away. there were 13 children in the manderson family. interesting to find you. i have a copy of the handwrittenrecord of my grandfather art's birth certificate entered in the records in england. just discovered it the other day. he came to canada as a bernardo boy.dont know if you know the story behind that. at least that is what my mother was told. she did not know that he had relatives. she thought he was orphaned in the first world war. interesting twist.

Oh wow! i just got chills reading that. Yes I do know that they were home children . in fact i have a picture of my great grandfather Harold, and his brother Art from when they came to Canada as home children. The other brother came a year later. Oh my god, do I have some info to share with you and your mom. Their mother had to give them up to Bernardo because she found out she had breast cancer and couldn't look after them. They also have a sister named Winnifred...but I don't know what happened to her. I know Harold went looking for her at one point and found her but she snubbed him from what I was told. Okay so what happened was, Their mother Louisa married a man named Barrett and had the three boys. She became a housekeeper after her husband died and she also took in laundry to make ends meet. She cleaned house for a man named Rodgers who was a widower. They ended up together and I assume Winnifed was from his first marriage. I have a pic of your gramma and grampas gravestone that I took one time on my way to Windsor to see my famiiy. I made my husband take me to Dresden and I asked at the town hall where the cemetery was. I was looking for 'Purdy's" from my mom's side of the family first and then found your grandparents on my way out of the cemetery. I would love to exchange info with you. and any pics if you don't mind to share. I am moving from one house to the other right now and have a lot of my stuff packed still but I will dig it all out so we can compare stories and info if you're interested. i also have a picture of the boat that Harold and Art came to Canada on.

This is very interesting! I am a grandson of Edith and Art Barrett. I have a brother, and we are the sons of Shirley, Art and Edith's youngest daughter (second youngest of 5 children). Although my grandfather passed away when I was only 7, I remember him very well. He was an extremely jovial man with an ever-present sense of humour!!!
