Re: Fred Longley & Family
From Ancestry.ca
Border Crossing Eastport Idaho 24 July 1928
Fred Longley, 22 , truckdriver, b NS, last residence: Vulcan Alberta, destination: Rathdrum Idaho USA, relative or friend: Mrs Lucas A Knox of Rathdrum Idaho.
1930 census Rathdrum Idaho finds a Lucy A Knox in Rathdrum Idaho but no Fred Longley is there. She is still there in 1940 census. Did not find Fred Longley on any available US census. Looked for an Idaho marriage for him but no luck.
Voter's List Kenora/Rainy River Ontario 1945
Mrs Fred Longley, widow at Keewatin. No other Longleys listed on voter's list either before or after that date in the area.
The only Longley headstone I found in Kenora area was for an Albert Charles Longley and it is only a wooden cross with no information it. It is in Lake of the Woods Cemetery. The cemetery should have the informant's name.
Last census released was 1921; births released to 1917; marriages to 1929 and deaths to 1939.

Re: Fred Longley & Family
Thank you so much for checking all this out; much appreciated! As far as we know his widow and sons went farther west in Canada at some point after his death. Given the voter's list info you've found I guess Fred died before 1945 so he wouldn't even have been 40.

Re: Fred Longley & Family
I just found a reference to his death in the Winnipeg Free Press dated May 19, 1943 but can't read any other details. It says he lived in Kenora.

Re: Fred Longley & Family
I did not find his death on Manitoba Vital Stats. Thought he may have died in hospital there. Any idea of names of sons or wife? As he went to Idaho in 1928 he may have married and had his sons there.

Re: Fred Longley & Family
No, he died in Kenora according to the paper. He crossed the border as a truck driver. I have no idea of his wife's or sons' names which is what I would like to learn. They were less than 5 years old when he died as far as I know.
