Dear Gordon -- Thank you so much for replying to my post. I was able to find out a fair bit about William & Emma's son Horace who was a pioneer city planner. He spent a great deal of his life in Ottawa and my brother, who lives there, looked up his obituary etc. One of Will's sons is still living and I sent him a copy of the photo which I'd found in our attic, but his wife tells me he has Alzheimer's. They have no children and had thrown away all the old family photos when they moved. I have the impression that William & Emma's other 2 children did not marry. What a tragedy Will's suicide must have been for all the family, very sad. The local library in that area sent me a scan of the news report from the time.

Thanks again for getting in touch,
Liz Brown

P.S. I meant, of course, that one of Horace's sons is still living.

Hi!

Tracing any Llewellyn family would be, in essence, misleading. Harriet Jane Flewwelling was the wife of Ira C. Wooden. The name, Flewelling, derives from the Welsh, Llewellyn, but the latter version had not been used for probably 400 years. Now and then, as a given name, it was 'corrected' to Llewellyn and this is what happened in the case of Harriet's grandson, Horace Llewellyn Seymour. I am still working on this, but basically, Harriet was:

Harriet Jane Flewelling b. 9SEP1832 (11SEP1832 in 1901), baptized Oak Point Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB 28JUL1833, d. Burford Twp., Brant Co., ONT 20MAY1905 age 72 years, buried Congregationalist Cemetery, Burford, Brant Co., ONT, m. Ira C. Wooden (b. ONT 26DEC1827), s/o Ira and Delia (Fowler) Wooden.

Her parents were:

Thomas Brittain Flewelling b. 28AUG1797, d. Mooretown, ONT 19DEC1877, m. 1st 3NOV1823 Mary Lyons (or Lyon) (b. 11JUN1802, d. 30OCT1824, buried Oak Point 6OCT1824 (?), age 22), d/o John and Sarah (Northrup) Lyons; m 2nd Kings Co., NB (by the Rev. Elias Scovil, witnesses: Caleb Davis and Stephen Crawford) 22NOV1826 Matilda Hughson (b. ca. JUN1804, d. 17MAR1880 age 75 years and 9 months, buried Burford Congregational Cemetery, Burford Twp., Brant Co., ONT), d/o Joshua and Sarah (Drake) Hughson.

Thomas Brittain Flewelling was a son of:

Caleb Flewelling b. North Castle, Westchester Co., NY 4FEB1773, d. Oak Point, Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB 19APR1858, buried St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery, Oak Point, Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB, m. 4FEB1797 Mary (Polly) Brittain (b. 4MAY1774, d. Oak Point, Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB 17MAR1860 age 84 years, buried St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery, Oak Point, Greenwich Parish, Kings Co., NB).

Caleb was a son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Griffin) Flewelling (my own ancestors through another son), Loyalists from North Castle, Westchester Co., NY, who came to New Brunswick in 1783. Thomas, I believe, was a son of John and Elizabeth ("Blue" Smith) Flewwelling, who ended in Newburgh in what was then Ulster Co., NY. John Flewwelling was the son of Thomas and Hannah (Smith) Flewelling of Hempstead, Long Island, NY. Thomas was the s/o Thomas and Hannah (Ashman) Flewelling of Jamaica, Long Island, NY. That's about as far as the Flewelling's have been traced with any reliability.

Thomas.
