I am looking to make contact with any descendants (or people with knowledge) of Alexander McKenzie born March 30, 1774 in New York State (County of Columbia - first married to Sarah Ross (born June 18, 1785; married June 17, 1804; died March 11, 1813); second marriage to Maria Thomson (born near "Goshum" or Goshen, NY on June 15, 1796; married June 19, 1816; died in the 1860s).
Alexander and family were farmers owning land on Concession 4 Lot 11 of Thurlow Township from 1811 into the 1860s. Alexander is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery north of Corbyville. His stone shows his date of death as Dec. 22, 1859.
In the 1878 Illustrated Historical Atlas of Hastings & P.E. Counties there is a reference to several names of settlers coming from the U.S. to Thurlow in the 18th Century. There is mention of an Archibald McKenzie. I would like to find if there is any link for Archibald and Alexander.
I would also like to find the date of death for Maria (Thomson) McKenzie.

My link to the Mott family is Oliver Mott who died on Dec. 7,1887 aged 89 Years 1 Month based on the info on his gravestone located at the Plainfield Cemetery on Concession 7 Lot 20 of Thurlow Twp. Hastings County. He was married three times: first to a Mary Ann Mott who died on June 12, 1847. The 1871 Census shows 5 of the children - Jonis aged 32, Caleb aged 30, George aged 26, Egbert aged 24 and Mary Ann aged 23. I believe this Mary Ann was the daughter of Mary Ann Mott.
Oliver then married the widow of Francis Fry (drowned Apr. 22,1848 at Reed's Mills - Eliza (Homan) Fry. They had 3 children as identified in the 1871 Census: Gilbert aged 18; Hannah aged 15 and Cynthia (my Great Grandmother Glover) aged 15. Judging from the age of Gilbert in 1871, I believe he married Eliza around 1852.
Finally, he married the widow of my Great Great Grandfather, Phillip Glover - Nancy (McKenzie) Glover in 1878.
Your Emma Mott may have been a niece of Oliver. I have learned that there was a family of Motts who settled in Sidney Twp in the early 1800s. I believe Oliver was related to them. Anyone else familiar with Emma?

I believe that any connection between the MOTT's of Hastings County
and those in Norwich Twp., Oxford County would have to have been prior
to 1810 when Sears MOTT Jr. brought his family from Dutchess County, N.Y.
to Oxford County.

Emma was the sixth child of Reuben MOTT and Phebe Ann SWARTOUT,
born in1848 in North Norwich Twp., Oxford Co., ONT.

I am a descendant of her elder brother, James MOTT, born in 1846.

If I can help you, please contact me at wm072@victoria.tc.ca.

Looking for my late father's notes. Ruben Mott of Leeds was my great great something grandfather. I think there was an Emma but I can't find my dad's notes. I will dig deeper. To think he put them together before the internet was here.
