I'm tracking down a more concrete answer in regards to James and Jane Guthrie. They lived in Halton most of their lives. They had at least 8 children. My research shows all the children were born in Canada but yet I can find no birth certificates anywhere. Specifically I am looking for Rebecca who disappears from the census after 1881. According to the 1900 US census she immigrated at the age of 11 to the US. What really help is some guidance as far as a birth certificate from the Halton area around 1871.

Re: James Guthrie- Halton
Government registration didn't begin until 1869 and it was sporadic for a few years after that. 1881 census gives Rebecca;s age as 9. I did not find her birth on Ancestry.ca Church records are a source. They were listed as Presbyterians on 1881 and 1891 census.

Re: James GUTHRIE - Halton , Jane, Rebecca
Hi, When did James and Jane GUTHRIE live in Canada -most of their lives ? - Did they move to USA along with daughter Rebecca age 11 years. Where did the family live in the USA Do you know the names of the other children of Jane and James GUTHRIE; Research through these family members may be helpful Border Crossing Records ?
There may not be REGISTRATIONS of BIRTH / Long Form Certificates or Registrations of Marriage - much would depend on the time frame. Do you know the Religion that the family followed? Marriage - Baptisms etc - records - may be available Not everything appears at Ancestry or Family Search Org - - these are ongoing projects - when information becomes available /public record unless families submit personal family information -

Re: James GUTHRIE - Halton , Jane, Rebecca
They did not move with their daughter, whom I think may be a niece. I'm just not to sure. My Great Mother's obit and death certificate do not match James and Jane but I do know for a fact that she lived there. She has George and Isabella. Rebecca was married in 1891 in Pitt., PA, USA. I can follow almost all the children. However, I can not find one single birth certificate, which given the time period might be possible they had children from 1863 to 1877. It just that Rebecca has a huge gap from 1881 to 1891. Since the 1890 US census was destroyed I can't track it that way.
