Hey, I am looking for my birth parents. I was adopted at age two. I do not know much information about my biological family, including names. I know that my birth mother is dead. I have no idea if my birth father is alive or not. I was born in Toronto in St. Michael's hospital. My parents were not teens. That's all I know. Thanks.

Hi, Have you obtained your Adoption papers / records? Many provinces now allow access to these documents. Papers may include your original Registration of Birth / Long form Birth Certificate - which will show the names of your birth parent/s Do you know if your birth parents were married ? What is your source of information re the death of your birth mother ? Have you checked with the hospital - re births of female on your birth date? - There may be information - that could be of help. Is BIERSTEKER - your birth surname ?

I don't have any birth certificate. I do not know the names of my birth parents. I do know that they weren't married, and Children's Aide contacted my family short after I was adopted notifying my family that my birth mother died of a brain tumor. I haven't heard anything about my birth dad. My last name Biersteker is my adopted last name. I have contacted the hospital where I was born, but I don't have access to that information cause the documents are sealed.

Hi Brittany, You need a Birth Certificate - There must be one - with your adoptive name - surname. If you don't have one you should contact the Govt Vital Statistics Office . It will be in your adoptive name. Birth Cert is necessary - for identification - eg if you with to obtain a passport - etc
Sealed Adoption Records: Many Provinces have now Opened the sealed adoption files - to adoptees. You can make application for same. Govt Vital Statistics dept. could include your adoption papers/ documents - and your Original Birth Registration which may show the names of your parents . It will have your mothers name -age - marital status etc may or may not show the name of the father. Mother may not wish to name the father - or father may not wish to be named on a document.
Note: Birth Registration: - all of the personal information taken at the time the birth is registered Birth Certificate : is an extract of Basic information taken from the Registration - Good for proof of an event - without giving personal information to those with No Need to Know
With the name of your Mother - you know that she is deceased - You should be able to obtain her Registration of Death - from Govt Vital Statistics It will show personal information - as known to / provided by the Informant. Name - address - date and place of birth - names of parents including her mothers maiden name -place of birth of parents - Occupation - marital status . may show cause of death [Physicians cause of death ]
Children's Aid Society: Contact them- They may be able to help. They would have your files - which might now be made available to you.
There was information posted - many years ago - re Hospital Ledger - which is not sealed.
