Hello,
I am a descendant of Adam Young. He is my 5X gr grandfather.
I received my United Empire Loyalist certificate proving that I was a descendant of Adam Young born May 17, 1717 in Stone Arabia, New York.
I have published a "Adam Young UE 1717-2008 Family History"
My line descends through Adam to his son Daniel, to his son Peter then to Barbara Ann Young, her son David, to my grandfather Harvey Dickenson Young born in Seneca twp, Haldimand County, Ontario, finally my father David Harvey Young.
Adam and his sons fought with Butler's Rangers during the American Revolution 1775-1783 in the Mohawk Valley,N.Y. they settled first in Niagara and then the Young Tract along the banks of the Grand river in Haldimand County, Ontario.
Adam's father was Theobald Jung/Young. He arrived in New York aboard the "Lydia" in 1710 from the Palatine in Germany originally.
If I can help with any information I am willing to share what I can. Pat

Would you kindly tell me how to find information about the Butler's Rangers who settled in the Grand River lands. I have an interest in finding Sgt. Joseph Petrie who on a petition is given a residence as "Grand River". A Pro looked at the Brant County Indian Land sales. He was not there. I would like to continue this research myself but so far I have not found what records would most likely show his area of residence. He was in there by 1795; most records do not begin that early. Any guidance you could offer would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you for your time. Lh

Hi
Butler's Ranger's has a great website. You just need to google "Butler's Rangers"
Another site is the United Empire Loyalist webpage uelac.org or just google Loyalists.
Hope this helps.
The UEL has 28 Branches across Canada and most Branches are happy to help. Your Petrie would probably be the Grand river Branch. They hav an excellent webpage. Pat

Hi Sandy, You are most likely one of the Young clan from southern Ontario but you need to do a little more research. You could look at the familysearch.org website and look for records of your Dad. Enter his name, date of birth in Welland to see if you find a record with his name. From there you will find the name of his father and so on. There are lots and lots of Young families in the area.
My ancestor Adam Young born 1717 in Foxtown, New York in the Mohawk Valley fought in the America revolution and remained loyal to the British. His 5 sons all fought with Butler's Rangers and too remained loyal . They escaped after the revolution to Niagara. Adam being elderly had established a farm in Niagara. His sons John, Daniel and Henry were granted land in Haldimand County, along the Grand river between Cayuga and York (village). The family has remained in the area but there are branches everywhere. Let me know. You could always attend a Young family reunion in Blackheath, Ontario in July where there are folks who could possibly help you out. Happy hunting, Pat

As family history goes, I too am a descendant of Adam Young. He would be my 6X Great Grandfather.

My family line of descent would be from Adam to his son Daniel, then to his daughter Catherine Young, to her daughter Catherine Wintemute (born in Ft Erie), to her daughter Emma McBay (born in Seneca), to her son William Patterson (born in Haldimand), to my grandmother Viola Patterson (born in Hamilton), then my mother Lois Aitken (born in Hamilton).

I have not been able to find all the supporting documentation yet to prove the descent (just started on Ancestry a few months ago) and would appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thanks,
Bonnie

Their daughter Catharine Wintermute was born 1816 in Fort Erie, Ontario and married Alexander MCBey/ Bay. They were married 18 May 1852 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario. I have siblings for Catherine Young/Wintermute, Catharine Wintermute/ McBey. My email address is rpkelderman@shaw.ca. Give me an email and I can share more if you like. I have lots on Adam Young and Daniel as well. Thanks Pat
