Re: Wellington Mott of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin
Here's another wrench for the works. I checked the census images for Bastard Twp. for 1826, and the only MOTT family there was that of Simon Mott. He had 4 sons under the age of 16 at the time. But by 1828 and 1829 he was in Yonge. Simon was born ca 1776.
Last year I indexed many early censuses in Yonge Twp. for the Ontario GenWeb Census Project and remembered that Simon had been in some of those, also. So I checked my Yonge Twp. early census index and found Jonathan and Hiram Mott in Yonge in 1820 & 1821, both with male children. There is a good chance that these men were Quakers, since the majority of the Quakers were in Yonge around Farmersville and in Plum Hollow area of Bastard, which is less than 5 miles away from Farmersville (now Athens).
Both Simon Mott and Jonathan Mott were jurors in an 1803 court case in Leeds Co.
Also, Squire Mott was in Yonge in 1819 with 5 males in his household (total--no breakdown done in 1819) and in 1825 with only 1 male child.
For what it's worth! :-)

Early Yonge Township Census Records
Sandy, could you please look at your recently indexed early census for Yonge Township and see if there are any additional Hicks. Once again, than you for what you do for everyone!

Re: Early Yonge Township Census Records
Ancestry lists this as Wellington Nott born in Windsor On. but on actual record place of birth is not given. Sandy

Re: Early Yonge Township Census Records
Hi Connie,
Good to hear from you. So far I've only seen the 3 men we know about--Martin, Garret and Daniel.
Martin in 1803, 1808, 1810, 1811
Garret in 1824, 1825, 1827
Daniel in 1824, 1825, 1827
The Mary Hicks in 1819 & Polly Hicks in 1820 I'm sure are the same person, probably the widow of Martin.
Since the extant censuses for Yonge skip after 1811 to 1819 (probably due to the War of 1812), I also transcribed an assessment for 1812 and one for 1817. No Hicks/Hix men appear in those. Of course the one I was looking for in that time period was Martin.
I completed thru 1833, but the Hicks men were not there from 1828 on.
All of these transcriptions are on the Ontario GenWeb Census Project website.
From the later Yonge censuses indexed by L&G for the mid 1840's, James Hicks was there in 1844 & 1845.
