I am connected to Emily Hastings who m. John Rob(b)ins. Emily was the sister of my ggg-grandfather. I have tried very hard to find more information about your Rob(b)ins family but so far have had no success. The information in your E-mail is the most I've been able to find in my 10 years of research. In fact, I have written in the notes of Emily, "Whatever happened to Emily???? Did she have children??? Did she stay in Canada???" They certainly covered their tracks because I can't find them anywhere. Emily's sister, Teresa Hastings m. Thomas Alfred Judd, one of the first Mormons, when he came through the area with Joseph Smith in the early day of their religion. But, I find no evidence that Emily and John followed them on their trek to Salt Lake. So, sadly, I don't have much to offer except I too would love to know more about the Robins family of No. Crosby in the early days. I do have a date of marriage for them...1839, New York. Still pretty vague but it is a date.

Hello Doneva;
Emily Hastings was my 3rd great-grandmother. The family migrated to Minnesota (Blue Earth Co) in time to appear in the 1860 US Census. There was an indian massacre at New Ulm and the family left Minnesota and went to Clayton Co, Iowa, where John Robbins was killed in an indian raid in January of 1863. Then Emily gathered up her clan and went back to Minnesota. She homesteaded in(I believe) Martin Co. After a time, she and some of her children trekked by ox team to California where she eventually died. They lived in Windsor, Sonoma County, where she is buried in Shiloh Cemetery. I think her death was about 1876.
According to the 1851 census of N. Crosby, Leeds, Canada, John also joined the Mormon Church. However, none of the rest of his immediate family did. I imagine that is why they did not migrate with the Judd/Hastings family. My branch of the family did not pass that information down. In fact, I believe they suppresed it. John's daughter-in-law, Louisa Swearingen, died In Oregon, while several of her children were young, and William Robbins, her husband died of cholera on a visit to their family in Minnesota a few years later.
Are you related to Eleazer Hastings? Do you have much information on the Hastings family?
Will be glad to exchange data. Barbara

Many thanks for your response. I do have information about Henry Robbins/Relief French. I have traced them to Clayton Co, Iowa where they have many descendants. I have much information on those families and have visited Clayton Co.
I would be interested in comparing my notes with what is posted. Also perhaps sharing anything I can add to the submitter. Is this site available to general public or by subscription?

Not up to date on the location that I stumbled over this Robins group...it was non-subscription..a revelation because I have spend endless hours researching looking for any info on a group of Robins in Simco Co...the paterfamilis is Henry Robins b. 1786 and possibly m. Esther b. Scotland. Believe he was previously from Whitchurch...thought he might be related to your group...their children were all born in Upper Canada.

Sorry, I believe my unfinished reply "went" unintentionally.
Our family tradition is that the Robbins were originally (prior to Revolutionary War) from Massachusetts.
The book, THE LOYALISTS IN ONTARIO is by Reid. I believe I've given you the info. on James' son Henry.

I have information on William Robbins and Frances Emery's daughter, Susannah (or Susan). She married Daniel Herrick about 1817, probably in Upper Canada, either the Grenville Leeds area, or in the Kingston vicinity. Daniel's father, John Herrick, died in Upper Canada in 1810, and his widow, Jerusha Hazen, married Josiah French and lived in Martinsburg, Lewis Co., NY. Daniel and Susannah Herrick settled in Allen Co., Indiana. I would appreciate any information on the Robbins family.
