I am looking for Oran Day Rogers, b. 1837, too. I have found a transcription of a cemetery tombstone that has "Herbert W. Rogers, son of O.D. and Sarah Meits, 1866-1948." This tombstone is located in Wellesley Cemetery in NY, US. I'm thinking "Meits" (or Meggs) might really be Mattice.
I also found the 1891 Canadian census in the Leeds South area that says that Oran Day Rogers (b. 1837) father was from the US and the mother was from England. I have also seen census reports that says he was born in 1843. I've also seen Oran spelled as Oren, Orin, Orrin, Orion, Orian, Oda (for O.Day) and Warren. I've also found Rogers spelled Rodgers, Roggers, Rogerson.
I have found an Oren D. Rogers born 1872, Ontario, son of Oran Day Rogers born 1837. Oren D. Rogers b. 1872 is brother to Herbert W. Rogers b. 1866. On a census report in either 1900 or 1910, I found Herbert lived next door to Oren D. Rogers b. 1872. (They were living in either Jefferson County, NY or St. Lawrence County, NY--I forget which.)
I have found that for most of their adult lives, Oran Day Rogers, b. 1837 and Sarah Meits/Mattice/Meggs lived in Escott or Leeds South or Ganaoque.
I'm not sure if the border between Ontario and Quebec changed in the 1800-1872 timeframe, but sometimes Leeds and/or Gananoque is listed as Quebec and sometimes it's listed as Ontario, but always it's listed as Leeds which must have been a county in those days. Either way, I can't search for Leeds as a county in databases I am researching.
I am completely unable to find a birth, marriage or death record for either Oran Day Rogers born 1837; or a birth, death or marriage record for Sarah Meits/Meggs/Mattice/Metis b. about 1839, in all of Ontario.
Is there any record of a fire or other such thing that could have resulted in a loss of b/m/d/bur records in Leeds? I can find them on Canadian censuses but nowhere else. Any help on these two as to where to look for their birth or marriage or death or burial information would be extremely appreciated. Mostly, I'm trying to find who their parents were so I can continue the search back in time. Thank you.
