Cousin Colleen has found new info on another of my King's Royal Regiment of New York KRRNY ancestors .
In Gavin Watts' revised book KRR [NY] we find John Kane [Cain] Sr. born 1761 America , joined KRRNY 2nd battalion 2 Nov 1780 as a Private . A wife [no name] is noted but no kids . He was 5'10" . His brother Barney [Barnabas] b. 1762 joined same batt. as a Private 25 August 1781 , no wife or children but he was 5'7" and was from Tryon Cty NY , so I take it John was from there also . Barney and John apparently served out the war together , and when the KRRNY disbanded in 1783 it was noted that Barney was returning to the States for family ,he probably settled later in Western Ontario . On McNiff's Map 1786 John Kane shares Lot 13 South Side of South Branch Raisin River [present day Glen Road] with Sergeant William McLeod .
John Kane / Cain was married to Elizabeth Prentice daughter of Daniel Prentice KRRNY and Mary Hamilton who had farmed on the Kingsborough Patent NY and later settled on part Lot 22 South Branch Road . Elizabeth received a land grant as daughter of said Daniel Prentice UEL , and her children did as well from John Kane / Cain UEL.
Children of John and Elizabeth Kane / Cain may include [this is a work in progress] Lenah Cain [from this generation on the name seems to settle at Cain] who married George Crites of Cornwall . Barnabas Barney Cain [named after his uncle !][my line] received land grant as son UEL in 1811 as did his wife Mary McEwen [1816] daughter of David McEwen KRRNY and Sarah Carr / Kerr daughter of William Carr / Kerr KRRNY [David and Williams families shared Lot 3 Front of Cornwall Twp where David ran a ferry service] .
Other of Elizabeth and John Cain children may include Daniel and Stephen who received their land grants in 1816 , and Elenor in 1819 . A Mary Cain married William Hall .
Barney Cain and Mary McEwen 's daughter Mary Ann Cain married John Snetsinger of Cornwall in 1843 . And so the saga continues . Cheers J.
