Sergeant Kenneth McDonell KRRNY

Seeking info on said Sergeant Kenneth McDonell . He appears on Ship's List for Pearl 1773 and Kingsborough Patent list of Tennants with rent due date of September 25 1780 . He served as a Sergeant in the KRRNY and resettled to Lot 10 Front Concession Charlottenburg Glengarry on McNiff's Map 1786 . He shared this Lot 10 Front with Peter Grant KRRNY [also on Kingsborough Patent list with rent due date of September 25 1778] . I suspect that these men might be related , and Kenneth McDonell may be a brother in law of Sergeant James Clark KRRNY who drew Lot 20 Front on same McNiff's Map 1786 . Peter Grant and Kenneth McDonell both appear on the Old United Empire Loyalist List .

Not to much on Kenneth. There is a note in The Brevity: Kenneth MacDonell 28 Jan 1842 Charlottenburg -1, Lot - 10 giving wheat, peas produce of 1841.

Hi Jay:
I looked for Kenneth McDonell in the KRRNY book and did see something. However at this time I am in Glengarry on my way to PEI. When I get home I'll write up what is noted in that book on Kenneth. Now Although the two men maybe on the 'old' United Empire Loyalist list,
they would have gotten their land as military claiments. Their wives and children could be noted as UE's.

Hi Tal and Anne . Thanks for those lookups . I went to my copy of the KRR book , and it has Kenneth McDonell listed as being born in 1742 so that probably has him dead before Tal's finding , but that might give him a son also Kenneth . KRR does not have him listed as a sergeant , but that is how I found him designated on other documents . I think on one claim he said he was corporal for part of the war and sergeant at the end . It does not list family but does have him from Kingsborough Patent NY , where I had also found him .

If you Google the following: "Mohawk Valley Loyalist Claims , Claims 289-293 , 295-299" it will take you to a page with #290 Evidence on the Claim of Kenneth McDonell, 84th regt., late of Tryon County , N.Y. Province [Montreal 25th November 1787] . I encourage all those who follow this Glengarry and Stormont Boards to check out these pages as there are a great many of our common Ancestors listed there . If cousin Ken McLennan is interested our common John McLennan is found on this same page as Claim #297 . The afore mentioned Kenneth McDonell includes a Certificate with his claim "Certificate of Neil McLean and Duncan McDougall , officers of the Late 84th Regt. , to claiments Loyalty and Good Character" .

I bought the books for the Claims from the United Empire Loyalists a few years ago at a genealogy conference. Who would think that you would find something like that in Springfield, Missouri? I have scanned claim number 267, which is for John McDonnell. Peter Grant is the witness. Of course, there are two Peter Grants that settled in Charlottenburgh at approximately the same time. This claim for John McDonnell says that he came to America in 1774 and Peter Grant says that he came to America in 1774 on his claim.

Hi Cousin Barb . Cousin Colleen and I have been in discussion on this matter .My speculation is that our Peter Grant who shared Lot 10 Front Charlottenburg with Kenneth McDonnell , [but they had different Rent Due Dates on the Kingsborough Patent List] because our Peter may have sent his wife and children with other family members on the Pearl 1773 , and he followed on a later ship in 1774 . Many documents have Peter's son Duncan Grant [who settled on Lot 20 South Branch Road ] as having arrived in 1773 on the Pearl , but Peter arrived in 1774 . That is why I put up the posting for Kenneth McDonell as his wife was Jenny Grant , and I feel these families are related .
As an aside . Could someone do a lookup for the marriage of a John Grant to a Jenny McDonell circa 1811 St Raphaels . Thanks in Advance . J.

Thanks for the baptism lookups . All clues help . I was hoping for John and Jenny's marriage record , as that may have given their parent's names as well , but the search continues . Thanks Again .
