I would like to know if anyone has documentary proof that Massey (Mercy Ann) Clark, wife of Donald A. Grant was really the daughter of David Ellis Clark and Catherine Gallinger. My husband descends from Louisa Clark, dtr. of this couple and every tree I've seen shows Massey as another daughter. However, the only Massey Clark I've found any official record of was David's sister, not his daughter. (Baptism in 1812 at St. Andrew's, Williamstown).
Where does the proof of parentage in all those trees come from?
I know the 1817 birthdate given comes from her tombstone at St. Andrew's, Williamstown, but birthdates given at time of death can be off by many years and, in any case, it doesn't tell us who her parents were.
Although she is not a direct ancestor of my husband's, I find myself troubled by this repeated, seemingly undocumented, information.
Are her parents named in her marriage or death record? Is there a baptism at a church other than St. Andrew's, Williamstown?
