Cousin Barbara brings more info to the table , but I do not think it solves the mystery , until it is decoded . Serious students, will note , of how our ancestors first came to Canada after the REV WAR , were victualled , and later drew Lot Numbers , as laid out on McNiff's Map 1786 by Patrick McNiff . My own ancestor John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 Street Road had remained in Scotland with his 9 children into the year 1785 , and arrived here with 8 of those children in 1786 , and yet he appears on said McNiff's Map 1786 holding not 100 , but 400 acres in one grouping of Lots 25 & 26 Street Road Charlottenburg . There was a great deal of trading and swapping of lands , prior to the names being inserted on that said McNiff's Map 1786 . That is why so many of our ancestors , ended up settling side by side in little groupings . I am happy to entertain opinions on said John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 in other postings . Today I shall resolve that Finlay Grant KRRNY mystery . Finlay Grant had drawn part Lot 19 Front [the Front Lots were perceived as prefered -- though all Lots were unimproved at that time ] . Finlay Grant KRRNY was about 50 in 1786 [as per Gavin Watt book KRR NY] and sought to settle next his son John Grant who held ticket for part Lot 17 South Branch Road [ 2nd Con SSRR for you purists ] . Finlay / Finley Grant traded his part Lot 19 Front with the heirs of Kenneth McKenzie who held ticket for other half Lot 17 SBR shared with John Grant on the other half . That would have been that ; but a McKenzie tried to pull off a 2 for NONE and John Grant son of said Finlay Grant took him to court over it . Convoluted as the court case may sound was the result that , if you want part Lot 17 SBR , then we lay claim , in the name of Finlay Grant , for part Lot 19 Front . McKenzie backed off , and I am happy to say that Finlay Grant descendants hold that Lot 17 SBR till today .
As a side bar : Finlay Grant and son John [possibly others] deserve UE status . John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 Street Road , does not deserve UE status as he sat out the REV WAR and remained in Scotland into 1785 .
