looking for information re Malcolm born 1794 - not sure if he was born in Glengarry, ON but he died in Lancaster Twp. in 1871 or 1872. He married Sarah Janet McDonell (McDonald) in St Raphaels 29 Jan 1822. She was the daughter of John Roy McDonell (ald) and Nancy Grant. Can't seem to find anything on him except his marriage. Thanks in advance.

The records for St. Raphael's show Malcolm as a MacDonell and married to Mary MacDonell on 29 Jan 1822. It shows his father as Samuel and his mother as Mary MacDougal. Also listed in the same records but under MacDonald are children Catherine born 25 Aug 1839 (Lancaster) and James born 9 May 1851 (Lot 15 Kenyon 1st)

If the Samuel above is your Malcolm's father there is a listing in Father John's Brevity as follows:

Samuel MacDonell on 14 Mar 1840 gave to the church 1 bushel of wheat and 2 of oats.Lancaster 9th Lot 6. and was the son of Duncan and the son of John.

In Father John's Diary of Deaths there is the following:

Samuel MacDonald died 16 June 1848 Lochiel 2 Lot ? son of Duncan of John.

In Duncan MacDonald's Genealogy of Clan Donald there is the following listing:

Mary MacDonell U.E. daughter of John Roy (2374) was born in 1804. She married Malcolm MacDonell in St. Raphael's Glengarry 29 Jan 1822. Malcolm was born circa 1794. Malcolm was the son of Samuel MacDonell and Mary MacDougald. Malcolm died 2 April 1871 at 76 years of age.

The line of John Roy MacDonell U.E. goes back a long way if you do not already have it let me know.

Thanks Tal. I do believe you have the right guy. I've ordered both of Father John's books but they're on back order - they should be here in a couple of weeks. This info is a great help. I have most of John Roy's info - back to John Dhu but if you have more I'd appreciate having it. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for all the names Tal - it goes back a long way. My great uncle George Donovan said he was the great great great grandson of the 1st lord of Barra through Malcolm Mcdonald.. Unfortunately he passed away several years ago so I can't ask him about it but I'm wondering now if it was actually through Mary not Malcolm. At least now I can look stuff up about it. Thanks again

A friend of mine, Francis Ross McDonald who wrote "Some of the John Roy Macdonalds" is publishing his final book on the John Roy's and Ardnabies in May of 2005. I have an advance copy as well as much background research including his of fifty years and my own (years withheld!)

I agree with Tal until Alexander II (Alexander Og). Angus Og was his brother not father, John Mor being the father of both

Best regards,

Evelyn
