Hi,

We think this might be him but not sure if he travelled onto the USA. I posted a similar thread in the Ramsey, Minn forum section.

Seven Lose Lives When Car is Hit
Grade Crossing Claims One More List of victims – Lumber Obstructs view of Track
St. Paul, Minn., Oct 2 – Seven persons were killed and one injured probably fatally, early tonight when their automobile was struck by passenger train No. 7, Chicago to the Twin Cities on the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha railroad at a street crossing here. The dead:
William Espin, 37, Exlund, Wis
Mrs. William Espen, 35
Lloyd Es;pen, 9
Marvel Espen 7
----- Espen, 4 months old.
Unidentified woman and unidentified man.
Frances Espen, 10, suffered a fractured skull and is not expected to recover. The Espens were driving from Exlund to St. Paul. They had purchased a house here and were on their way to it when the accident occurred at the Atlantic Street crossing, one seldom used by motorists. A pile of lumber alongside the track is believed to have obstructed their view of the oncoming train which was speeding down a lng grade into St. Paul. The car was smashed into bits and its occupants scattered by the train which was brought to a stop 500 feet away.

San Antonio Evening News – 3 Oct 1922
Car and Train Hit Crossing Together; 7 are in Morgue
St. Paul, Minn., Oct 3 – Bodies of seven victims of a crossing accident were in the morgue today while the survivor, a little girl, had not regained consciousness after 16 hours.

An Omaba limited train crashed into the heavily laden touring car late yesterday as it darted onto the track form behind two lumber piles without an apparent effort to stop. The car was hurled 100 feet, caught on the engine and was pounded to pieces.

William Espin, his wife and three of their children, Frances, 10; Lloyd, 9, and glen Earl, 4 months, were killed.

Hi Jane,

Thank you even so, for your help. I have the same feeling that it is not the same person but at least we can take this death away from our William.

So maybe our one stayed in Canada. Still missing death.

Maybe something will come from the Canada thread ;-)

Once again ty.

The profession noted in the passenger record in 1912 is a 'willeyer":

Fed fibres into a "willeying" machine to separate and comb them for carding, often blending fibres in the process

1921 Canadian Census in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay, along with Fort William):
61 Shipley Street

Espin, William, Head, married, aged 44, born England, immigrated 1910, Church of England, watchman
Espin, Emma, Wife, married, aged 41, born England, immigrated 1910

1949 Voters' List has a Mrs. Birtele Espin, widow, living at the same address. 1940 List shows William is still alive, working as a watchman, at the same address.

Thunder Bay library has an index of obits online:

http://www.tbpl.ca/upload/documents/fw-dtj-death-index-1900-...

William dated 1940; Mrs. William dated 1926, so wonder if he married for a third time?
