I just saw this message on here. My grandma June Fox was a McCumber. I cannot remember my great- grandparents names but they lived in Wagerville in an old store that was converted into a house. My grandma was one of their children. I would love a picture as my grandma just recently passed away. Her brother "Bud" I couldn't tell you what his real name was if that wasn't it..lol. We always just called him Uncle Bud. My grandfather would love to see an old picture of the McCumber family. Now that I read this I think william and Ruth are my great grandparents. If you could send me that pic so I can send it to my grandpa he would be happy to help out in anyway he can with names.

Agnes Williamson Thomson (Park) would have died in 1938.

James R Thomson is my g-grandfathers brother and would have immigrated from Scotland to Canada early 1920's.

KENNY and CLANCY - Kingston early 1870's

I'm at a brick wall (I think) with one branch of family tree:

I have a Thomas John Kenny born in Kingston Ontario June 28, 1874; baptised in July 4 1874 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Kingston Ontario. Thomas was the son of Philip Kenny and Mary Ann (some records reflect Mary Ellen) Job / Jobe.

It is the line from Philip Kenny back I'm having difficulty with.

According to the marriage of Philip and Mary Ann - Philip's parents were Hugh Kenny and Rose Clancy. The sponsors of Thomas' baptism were Michael Clancy and Mrs. Mary Clancy. This right now seems to be the only clue I have to finding more about Philip.

We believe the family came to Ireland and that Philip is from Ireland. It seems to be such a common name - both Kenny (and its' variations) and Clancy - that maybe connecting Philip somehow to Michael - I'm thinking cousin or nephew.

I'm guessing I'm wondering if someone else is following the same line of Clancy? or maybe has some suggestions on a good place to look for leads on Irish to Canada around the Potato Famine?

Hi, I just read your info on the Groomes U.E. of Kingston.

A David Grooms(of Waupoos Is. P.E.I. County Ontario) in my family married Elizabeth Galloway (of Watertown N.Y). There is some speculation that they are connected to the Kingston Groomes family.
The info that I have that is not confirmed is:
David Grooms b. abt 1799 d. 1823? Married Elizabeth Galloway
b. 1806 d. Waupoos 1886 d/o Charles Galloway (no info other than he may have migrated to NY from New England.

Children of the above:

Henry Grooms 1826-1874 m. Susan Westcott b.1833

Mary Eliza Grooms 1824-1899 m. William Wattam (Whattam)
of Waupoos Island.
My father was named after the Wattam side. John Wattam Dobbin.

Could there be a connection to your Groomes relatives and maybe even the George Galloway U.E also of Kingston?

Waupoos Island is not far west of Kingston so there might be a connection.

Thanks very much. I have looked at the directories and came to the same conclusion, that he moved from his farm at Elginburg to Kingston around 1908 .The Union Street address is complicated as his daughter was married to Alfred Buck at 21 Union Street. He died in 1926.

L. SPOONER at 19 Union St. first shows up in the 1908-09 Kingston City Directory so I would suggest he moved to Kingston around 1908.

A person called Cullen HAMILTON lived at the same address.

There is also a Lazarus SPOONER (retired) at 21 Union St. Which one is yours?

By 1922/23 Lazarus SPOONER lives at 19½ Union St. and there is no sign of L. SPOONE

He was married 3 times in his lifetime. In 1864 he married Sarah Irvine. In 1875 he married Anna Irvine. In 1916 married Rachel A Kilborn. He died in 1926.

I would like to know when he moved for Elginburg to 19 Union Street in Kingston.

I have found that I am part of the Hugh 1797 Campbell family tree. I have photos of the Abbott family homestead as well as members of the family, but I do not know who is who. I am related through Thomas 1859 abbott who married Sarah 1870 Williams. Thomas was a son of john abbott and Nancy Ransier.
Finding your tree was a huge boost to my research. Would like to offer my info to yours and be able to identify members in photos.

Prittie (Prettie), Wolfe Island from abt 1838 to 1852

Would like to find more information on family of Oliver Prittie (b 1791 Ireland) and wife Tryphania Mary Elizabeth Hayes (b 1798 Ireland)while living on Wolfe Island. They arrived in Canada first in Quebec City around 1832. Moved to Kingston by 1837 and onto Wolfe Island by 1838 where he stayed with family until abt 1852 when he moved to Lewis Co, NY. I believe Tryphania moved back to Wolfe Island and lived with daughter Jane until her death (d 1874) and is buried Trinity Anglican Church. Other Prittie family members remained on the Island after 1852.

I plan on visiting Wolfe Island this summer and would like to Know:
1. Is there a historical society or library on the Island?
2. Where can I find maps of Island during 1838 - 1852 period?
3. Any other suggestions on where to search for more info on Prittie family?
4. Is the Trinity Anglican Church still there?
5. Are there any historical books on families of Wolfe Island?

I wasn't aware of that only that Donna has obviously had some hard times having lost Gene - My concern is that she is ill as my gut feeling would be wherever she was, Donna would keep in contact. Donna often stayed in Roscrea County Tipperary (only about 13 miles from my homeplace of Borrisokane); but I'm not sure if she was going there last time out - Donna mentioned doing some research and meeting distant relatives up in the 'Wee North'

How long is it since you last had contact?

You are certainly correct. Some family members could not write, and so their surnames were recorded by others using phonetics. Needless to say, it can be difficult to search with all the variations..U B D P T Graf Grove Grave etc. Using * has turned up some surprising finds.

Do you perhaps know my Great Uncle Clifford Burtch he was Mary Etta's and Charles Albert Burtch's 7th child but I am sure you know all this he is still living and is about 91...lol....It has been many years since I would have been to his place with my dad in Battersea although it would be nice to visit with him I wouldn't want to just show up on anyone's doorstep especially in this day in age when people are leary and never sure of others ..My dad has been gone 10 years now and unfortunately I don't know any of the older relatives..I will be 40 later on this year myself..Perhaps we could meet up for coffee some day...Thanks so much once again. I actually live down off Chaffey's Lock Road so it has been very interesting to me to find out that all my family from my Grandma (Burtch)Wilson side and ancestry comes from this area..funny how things go sometimes. Even though I was raised and grew up on the Wilson family homestead on Devil Lake (South Frontenac Township)I now live in the area where the Burtch Ubdegrove's lived. I have stopped at the Morton Cemetery and taken my own pictures of Mary (Etta) Ubdegrove and Charles Albert Burtch's grave headstone. Oh it's truth...Kenneth (born Elisha) Ubdegrove was brother to Mary Etta. His marriage record states mother's maiden name as Ann Jane Williams and father Josiah Ubdegrove. He was born 19 Apr 1897 in "Little California". aka the old homestead on Keelerville Road. Two of Ken's daughters are still live...one of them is my mother in law.
Mary Etta, Elijah and all the others are shown on the 1891 census with their parents.
I also have Josiah and Anne Jane's marriage record image showing their parents names.
Do you have a tree on Ancestry? I could link to it, and then you could merge any records or names etc that you need.

Hi there. My Great Grandmother was Mary(Etta) Ubdegrove and Great Grandfather was Charles Albert Burtch. My Grandmother was their daughter Jeannetta Burtch Wilson. I am just wondering if you have had any luck into getting information or any pictures of our great grandmother Mary(Etta)Ubdegrove and her parents. I have been able to copy a picture of our great grandfather Charles Albert Burtch and their wedding papers but haven't been able to get anything else. Al Burtch still lives in Newboro.
