Kelly; I have ancestors by the name of Burley. I don't have any proven info on them as yet. I am still looking. My g.g. grandmother was Harriet Burly Stephan who settled, raised a family and died in the Big Rapids, MI. area. Her father's name was Cornelius and her mother's name was Margret Dawson. Any connection?

Hi Linda

Where and when was your Harriet Burley born? I don't have her in my database, however there was a Cornelius Burley bc1760 dc1804 who was a son of John Burley and Dorcas Freeman. My info came from Dianne McKinnon [deceased] years ago - said Cornelius had four sons, one of which was Abner; Cornelius was not UE. Sorry I couldn't help.

My gggrandfather, Sidney Burley B 1841, Canada was a farmer in Charlevoix Michigan in the 1870s. Per land pantents, the adjoining property was owned by a Syrenous (Cyrus?) Burley. When researching "Syrenous" the name Cyrus always pops up. Hoping Cyrus is either father or brother to Sidney as I am at dead stop. Thanks

Hello Nadine

I apologize for the late reply. Sorry, but I don't have a Sidney Burley in my database. There are a couple of Cyruses but my info on them is incomplete. One was the son of a UE and was born c1796 possibly in Ontario; lived in Frontenac County; died 1881. The other was the one in this query. I lost track of him after his daughter was born in 1852.

I have a Cyrus Burley who married Aldah Randolph. He was a son of John Burley and Lydia Richmond. Do you think there may be a connection?

Hi Jan

This Cyrus is of the UE line - not mine. There is a lot of info on the UE Burleys in the Burleigh Papers at Queen's University in Kingston.

I would like to suggest that you also try the surname spelling BURLEIGH. Just a thought...and you've probably already done it.
