Surnames: Reid
There are two burials in St Alphonsus Cemetery which may be relevant to me and I'm hoping someone might be able to provide me with more information on them.

I found photos of the headstones on http://geneofun.on.ca/cems/ON/ONESS15636

One stone reads Frances J Reid (Mother) b. 1870 d. 1948

The other reads Mary Reid (wife) d. 25 Dec 1953.

Any help with this would be very gratefully recieved.

Thanks for the replies.

The obituary and the Windsor newspaper archive are great finds.

Alas, there isn't mention of where Frances was buried and I haven't found a death notice for Mary yet.

Is it possible to get burial records from St Alphonsus Cemetery?

I'm guessing that your interest lies in a family that appears in the 1930 and 1940 US census for the City of Detroit showing an Arthur REID (birth abt 1895), his wife Mary, and his widowed mother Frances J. REID -- all born in Ireland.

A 1932 border crossing document for Frances J. REID, resident of Detroit, Michigan, indicates that she would visit family members in Canada in the border cities (Windsor presumably being one of them).

There was also an obituary (attached) appearing in the "Windsor Star" on December 26, 1963 (not 1953) for a Mary (nee NOLAN) REID who passed away on December 25th. She was a wife of Arthur and was born in Ireland.

According to the following Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid (OCFA) site, both Mary REID and Frances J REID are buried in St. Alphonsus Cemetery (the new section) , Windsor, Ontario.

http://ocfa.islandnet.com/ocfa-search.php

This is consistent with the St. Alphonsus photos that you found elsewhere.

Hope this additional information assists you.

That's a great find BresPet. And your guess is entirely correct.

When I first came across the pictures of the headstones in St. Alphonsus Cemetery via a hint from Ancestry I didn't feel I had enough to go on to claim them as my own but I think the newspaper death notices tie everything together nicely.

Thanks for all the help.

It's very good of you to go to such trouble but alas I already have most of the above attached to my tree. Although I haven't yet found a record of a possible second marriage between Arthur Reid and Margaret Nolan (sister of Mary/ mother of Francis Bowler). Also of note, Arthur's father was away on business in Co. Kerry at the time of the 1901 Census and died in 1914 before Arthur left for Canada.

By the time Mary (nee NOLAN) REID's brother Rev. Hugh NOLAN passes away in June, 1969, Arthur has already married her widowed sister, Margaret "Peggy", according to Hugh's obituary (attached).
