There may be some clues in the Bayham Township papers that mention in 1848 Lambert and Nicholas DEPEEL who are right ages to be siblings of Alexander plus kids naming patterns match. Also in 1851 census for Bayham there is a notation that Nicholas born in Canada East (Quebec) is of "French origin" and in addition there is a 100 year old woman with them Charlot MOSMAN? also born Quebec.

This is Charlotte MOSSMAN buried at the Firby Cemetery in Bayham Twp.

White marble rectangular stone - weeping willow
In memory of / Charlotte / wife of / Timothy MOSSMAN / died / Mar. 26, 1857 / AE 109 ys 10 ds / Call me not back to earth / To lose my crown / I fought with sin & death / The victory is won

My interest in the line has been the POUND connection. Michael Alexander DEPEEL married Catherine POUND 26 Oct 1858 at Yarmouth.

Also of interest is the UCLP for Nicholas's wife Eve who was daughter of Lambert AKER / ACOR of Grrantham, UE who made petition 1839 at Grantham where Nicholas DePEEL was residing at time.

Death Certificate actually states Alexander DePeck.d- in Jackson, Jackson Co. Michigan. b-Canada-1799. Also would like to find where his first wife Kezia is buried in Canada, either Firby or Best cemetery.

Yes, a search of our Elgin OGS web site brings up 9 returns for "DePeel" including the above. See:

http://www.elginogs.ca/system/app/pages/search?scope=search-...

I found no returns in the Lower Canada Land records

Interestingly, while of "French Origin" most are given as "E. Methodist" in Bayham censuses.

He was born in Canada. His death certificate says DePeck, but everything else is the same.
