I am looking for anyone who recognizes or think they belong to them, William and Mary Hoskin, born England. I believe they are my ggg grandparents, parents of Phillipa Hoskin. Thank you for your time.

Do you have any ages for them? There are a few William Hoskins with wife Mary on the early census in Durham and area. Do you have a married name for Philippa? It was a common name back in the 1800s.

K, did not need to hear that! A few William and Mary's? Ugh. I thought I had finally found Phillipa's parents. :( K, here is what I know about Phillipa, my gg grandmother. birth approx 1825 England (therefore I am looking for a William and Mary who would fit the approp. age as parents) death Sept 12, 1887 her will went to probate November 15 1887 Phillipa married William Costly/Costley (possibly Costello) June 18, 1858, Seymour Twp., Northumberland Co., officiated by FJL Graves, United Church of England and Ireland. Something to note: on the records, parents are listed as Pascoe Hoskin and Mary. But witness is also listed as William Pascoe. I think in actual fact, I am looking for a William and Mary Hoskin. The first census I have her located in is the 1861, Village of Campbellford, born England, age next birthday 35. Mind you, in the 1871 census she is again listed as born England, age 35. 1881 census, born England, age 56. Phillipa was admitted to Rockwood Hospital, Kingston, sometime between March 27, 1885, when her will was written in Campbellford and September 12, 1887, date of her death. My mother often mentioned, when I asked her about Phillipa, that Helen, (oldest sister) often repeated the story that "Great Grandma was a very sick woman", but couldn't elaborate. I only just learned about Rockwood, thanks to Michael Stephenson ontariogenealogy. I have requested the complete record but I think he's away right now. I have fingers, toes crossed that her asylum records will tell me more about her family. Anything else I can provide that might be of help in finding her family, ask away. I have alot of info gathered already on this couple. Thank you so much for your time.

From Ancestry.ca
1861 census Darlington Tsp, Durham
HOSKINS William, b England, 61 Mary, 65, England James, Upper Canada,21 Jane, UC, 32
1851 census Darlington Tsp Durham. The same Hoskins as above but no mention of a Philippa. 1871 census Darlington, William, Mary and Jane Hoskins.
I have used Mike Stephenson as well with good results.
On 1841 census England, there are 3 Philippa Hoskins all born Cornwall around your Philippa's age but none with parents of William and Mary.

Not sure how much help but will list what I have from a Costley genealogy sent to me some time ago. William Costley born July 1821 in Ireland died Feb 15 1892 in Campbellford age 70 years 7 months. No death registration found but a report in the Campbellford Herald newspaper reported the death ( I have the obit ) He married Jane Unknown who was born about 1832 and died 24 April 1854 in Seymour Twp at 22 years of age .buried West`s Cemetery He married Philippa Hoskin June 18 1858 in Seymour Twp d/o Pascoe Hoskin and Mary Unknown. She was born 1825 in England and died Sept 12 1887 in Kingston Ont.( I have details of her will which indicated 2 children ..a son John Costley and a dtr Mary Sarah Hardy ) A William Costley was reported to have lived in Clarke Twp in 1848 at lot 6 con 4 . In 1861 Wm Costley bought the land in Clarke as a clergy reserve. It may be that these are different Williams. The Clarke family are part of my tree . Cannot connect the Costley family of Campbellford. More in this genealogy but maybe you already have it. The William of Campbellford was reported to have been a carriage and sleigh maker.

Thank you but I believe that originally came from me. I have extensive research completed on the Costley family now and they are not my issue. It is this Phillipa Hoskin that is sending me in circles. Thank you again but the hunt continues.

I was wondering if indeed it might have been you who sent it. It was a while back. Did you ever find anything to connect the Seymour Costleys to the Clarke Costleys ? rwaitec568@rogers.com
