Re: Pasco Hoskin / Mary Brown
I checked those marriages against the CFHS DB, and I think you are probably right, although you will need to solidify this with other records if possible. Interestingly this has uncovered an error in the CFHS DB that I will have to report, since the 9 Jun 1783 marriage has the groom as Thomas SLOGGET and not Thomas Slogget HOSKINS, and we know from all the baptisms that the surname was HOSKINS. Phillmore refers to the marriage indexes made by William Phillmore. You can see more at http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/Registers/

Annie Hoskin 1834 - 1897 in Darlington on her own md James Mountjoy
Since Ann Hoskin is such a common name, there are more than 150 baptisms for the name in the Cornwall Family History Society research database.
So I searched a parish at a time, using Ann* Ho*k*n* and spreading out from Luxulyan and St Blazey, from where many of the Cornish settlers in the Whitby and Darlington Township area arrived in and after the 1830's.
There were no good candidates in Luxulyan and no hits at all for the name in St Blazey.
Tywardreath had just one hit, in 1826. St Stephen in Brannel had 5 hits but none anytime near 1834. St Austell also had five, the closest being one in 1839. Lanlivery had four, but none after 1816. Lanivet had none. Lostwithiel had just one, in 1802. St Mewan had none. Fowey had six, but none closer to 1834 than 10 years. Roche had three, but none close.
So I am coming up empty on her in this area of Cornwall.

Re: Thomas & Elizabeth Hoskin
Forgot to check the Thomas Hoskin-Eliza Rundle marriage -- none in Cornwall, where the only two Ho*k*n*-Run* marriages were
Husband Name Wife Name Parish Date Remarks
Andrew HOCKIN Elizabeth RUNDLE St Winnow 16 Aug 1773
Charles HOCKING Mary RUNDALL Linkinhorne 4 Dec 1800

Re: Annie Hoskin 1834 - 1897 in Darlington on her own md James Mountjoy
I appreciate your efforts but I think I see as you no doubt do that with so many Hoskins in Cornwall and all with such commonly used names that it is indeed a tenuous task.
The Wm Hoskin Jane Mullis line used the name Cephas as did the line of John the sawyer but that may only be a coincidence.
I guess it becomes a bit futile to think connections can be made.

John Hoskin 1828 - 1906 ...a sawyer at Leskard
I am assuming you mean he was from Liskeard in Cornwall.
Checking Liskeard baptisms for John* Ho*k*n* the last one of 7 hits was in 1825. Neither of the marriages are in the CFHS database.
I also checked baptisms in St Just in Roseland (no candidates), Menheniot (one in 1826), St Neot (none) -- too many Johns to deal with in all of Cornwall.

I found no baptism, marriage nor burial of any C*s Ho*k*n* in the CFHS database in any parish at any time. So the name Cephas may have come in through a wife's family in Canada.

Wm Hoskin & Mary Mullis in Darlington in 1851 with 4 children
Found two baptisms at Altarnun:
Surname Forename Relation Father Surname Father Forename Mother Surname Mother Forename Parish Baptism Date
HOSKIN Jane Mullis Dau HOSKIN William - Mary Altarnun 17 Feb 1826 HOSKIN Mary Ann Dau HOSKIN William - Mary Altarnun 30 Mar 1828
Searching for all Ho*k*n* baptisms at Altarnun, with no given names specified, these were the only two after 1750. So 76 years apparently went by with no Hoskin baptisms there. The earliest was 1696. And not one of them was a William.
There was a Mary Mullis baptized there - but in 1823, so too late to be the wife of William. There are a LOT of hits (but less than 150) in all of Cornwall for Mar* M*l*s.
Narrowing to Mar* Mu*l*s, there were only two in the 1800-1809 decade (15 Dec 1804 Mary Ann Mules to William & Elizabeth at Crantock; 7 May 1809 Mary Mullis to William & Ann at Colan).
In the 1790-1799 decade, there were three (16 Aug 1795 Marianne Mules to John & Grace at Launceston - St Mary Magdalene; 17 Sep 1795 Mary Mullis to John & Elizabeth at South Petherwin; 24 Oct 1799 Mary Mullis to John & Sarah at St Germans).

Re: John Hoskin 1828 - 1906 ...a sawyer at Leskard
No , he lived at Leskard ....in the Orono Ont area ....Clarke Twp. So two John Hoskins not that far from one another . John in Clarke and John in Bethesda ( Darlington ) ...both about the same age .

Re: Pasco Hoskin / Mary Brown
Hello. Have you made any more progress on this family in the last couple of years? I just found the message, and I do have some information for you.
Pasko Hoskin and Joan Cock were married 11-Sep-1761 in Tintagel. Their children were: 1. Thomas Slogget, baptised 18-May-1762. (I believe he married Elizabeth Parsons, as you noted above, but I don't have any more evidence for that marriage than you do.) 2. Mary, baptised 25-Oct-1763 in Tintagel. Married 8-Apr-1782 to John Avery. 3. Phillipa, baptised 6-Oct-1766 in Tintagel. Married 14-Jul-1798 to Joseph Gard. 4. Joan, baptised 5-Jun-1770 in Tintagel. Presumably died before the birth of... 5. Joan/Johanna, baptised 24-Sep-1777 in Tintagel. Died 21-Apr-1751. Married 4-Jul-1801 to John Bonney.
I have the wills of Pascho and Joan. Pascho's mentions his wife Joan, his dau'ter Joan Boney and her husband John Boney, his grand-dau'ter Mary Boney, his dau'ter Philippa Gard and her husband Joseph Gard, his dau'ter Mary Avery and her husband John Avery, and lastly his son Thomas Hosking (who received the rest and residue of the estate, and was named executor). Joan's mentions the same sons and dau'ters (but not spouses), and the same grand-dau'ter. Joan Boney received the rest and residue, and was named executrix.
Pascho Hoskin was the son of Pascho Hoskin and Mary Browne. (Not to be confused with the later couple with the same names, who you mentioned earlier.) They married 28-Feb-1738/9 (i.e. 11-Mar-1739 by the modern calendar) in Tintagel. They had at least seven children, but Pascho (baptised 11-Feb-1741/2 in Tintagel) is the only one I have marriage/descendant information for. The elder Pascho died intestate in 1762, and his son Pascho was appointed administrator of his estate. Mary likewise died intestate (some time between 1755 and 1760).
Joan Cock was the dau'ter of William Cock and Phillippa Sloggat (hence young Thomas's middle name). They married 3-Nov-1734 in Lanteglos by Camelford. They had nine children, of whom only five survived in 1764 (her father's will, written that year, gives that number). Joan was baptised 21-Feb-1737/8 in St. Teath, and the other children between 1738 and 1754 in the same place. I have Phillippa's will. It mentions her husband William Cock, Philp Brown of Trewethet, her dau'ter Margaret and her husband Thomas Dannon, her dau'ter Joan and her husband Pascho Hoskin, the children (unnamed) of Margaret and Thomas Dannon, her grandson Thomas Sloggett Hoskin, and grand-dau'ters Phillippa Hoskin and Mary Hoskin.
Finally, I have identified three great-grand-parents for Thomas. Thomas Browne and Mary Burt of Minster, and John Cock of Lanteglos, all of whom I have wills for. (I also have the will of another Pascho Hoskins -- "Pascho Hoskins the younger" -- who was married to Mary Browne's sister Catherine.)
I have more information if you would like to share.
