Keith,
I'm sorry, unless I'm really overtired, I don't see where I have Reese or Barringer listed in my family. Do you perhaps mean Harry Mercer's file? He responded to my Madill/Goodfellow posting. Those names don't ring a bell with me at all. Laura

I am interested in this thread because I am a Crozier researcher (see http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/crozier-merrickville.html for my Crozier line). In the course of 20 and more years in this research, I have come into possession of lots of what seem extraneous. Included in this is a hand-written chart of recollections by an elderly descendant of three Madill bothers, JOSEPH (to Ohio), THOMAS To Cavan Twp, Ontario, and a JOHN (whose 3 sons also settled in Cavan Twp) who married a "Miss Crosier". It is because of the latter reference, and an almost *constant* inter-section of Croziers and Madills, that I have kept this sheet in my files. Please feel free to contact me, if this seems relevant. You may well know all it contains! Any Crozier/Crosier material, from your perspective, that intersects with mine would be much appreciated!

I have a Wiliam Stephen Madill/Ann Crawford in my family tree. They came to Canada and had Thomas, Mary, William J., Nancy Ann and Helen ( Eleanor). Any info you may have would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi,
I paged through my files and I have a William Stephen Madill married to Ann Crawford. They have children Mary (John Gillespie), Margaret b. Oct 22 1832 (George Charters), Elizabeth (Thomas Allen), Thomas John (Annie Cummings), Ann "Nancy" be Aug 1, 1840 (James Still), Eleanor (Peter Still), Ellen, William James b March 17, 1844 (Elizabeth Ann Clarke), Martha (Thomas McClelland), and John b. Aug 29, 1848 (Elizabeth Stewart). It does not give birthdates or parents for William Stephen but does say they came from Cootehill, Monhagan, Ireland. This comes from a Roger Peterson in Queensville, Ontario who did a Madill name study.

Your post is now 13 years old so a reply would be a near miracle. That said, I'm writing this because we have shared ancestry through both Bothwell and Madill families. I grew up in Peterborough, ON, and heard the stories about Margaret Dalziel Finlay Padan arriving in Montreal widowed while at sea with five children in tow. I have been able to document many elements in Margaret's life, including her birth, her marriages to Robt Finlay in Scotland and Hugh Padan (or Pedan) in Town of Perth, Lanark Co, Ontario, her selling and buying and mortgaging land in Lanark Co, living in Lanark Co with her son, Alex Finlay, his wife Ann, and their children in 1851 at 75yrs of age, and subsequently moving to live with her daughter Jane/Jean/Jeannie (Finlay) Bothwell in Cavan Twp, Ontario. Imagine making a 150+ mile move at 75+ yrs across the terrain of southern Ontario/UpperCanada! I'd love to learn more about the ancestry of Johns Bothwell and Madill, especially (but not only) their Irish and/or Scots-Irish rootsl. have.

Your post about the stories of an elderly descendant of three Madill brothers intrigues me. Mary Jane (Madill) Bothwell married one of my maternal Great-grandfathers, William Bothwell. He was 25 and she, 19. She gives her mother's name as Elizabeth Tait/Tate. From census records of 1851 and 1861 it seems the Bothwells and Madills lived on adjacent farms in Cavan Township. Mary Jane Madill's father and paternal grandfather were named John, and in census records, both state that they were born in Ireland. It is, I believe, MJ's grandfather who married Ann(?) Crosier. John Bothwell's father, William (b. 1811) also emigrated from Ireland, possibly sailing from Belfast, sometime before 1836 when he married Jane/Jean Finlay in Perth, Ontario. Your post is now 13 yrs past, but if you receive this note, I would so appreciate getting the info, data and stories you have about any of my ancestors.
