Peter Van Camp & family are supposed to have purchased Lot 21 B.F. in Darlington Twp in 1815. Obviously referring to this family, the Postmaster in 1906 wrote "By the way this family who settled on the Lakeshore near the beginning of the century are deserving a large place in any account of Darlington that may be written." Was there any account of the Van Camps written or does anyone have some history of the Van Camps of Darlington?

I'm only now really doing research on the Van Camps of Darlington. I descend from Peter's youngest daughter, Catherine. I know that they were originally in Dundas. Peter's father, Jacob, was a Loyalist who fought for the British with a unit in New York during the American Revolution. Jacob and his father (also named Peter Van Camp), were granted land in Dundas by the British government as thanks for their service. It appears that this Peter Van Camp above, originally lived in Dundas, had all of his children there, and moved to Darlington not long after my ancestor was born in 1813. I'd love to see what else you know.
