GUERNSEY, Daniel & Rachel
I am looking for any information on Daniel & Rachel (Jones) Guernsey who supposedly died in South Mountain, Dundas in the 1830s. (They were originally from Connecticut.) Where might they be buried? Who were their children? Thank you for any information.

Re: GUERNSEY, Daniel & Rachel
Hi Marcy Perhaps by now you have learned some information about Daniel and Rachel (Jones) Guernesy, however, I have some possible connections to share with you.I grew up near South Mountain, and my Mom was born there as well so the place is quite familiar to me. Margaret Guernsey, possibly born 1780’s, was the first wife of David Brown ( his second wife was Nancy Bradshaw McWilliams, widowed about 1809, was my 3xgr grandmother) and they had three children, David, 1802-1886 who is buried in the Union Cemetery, South Mountain, Dundas Co, Daniel, 1804-? and Margaret. The mother, Margaret died 1806 and perhaps was buried in South Mountain but I have no proof of this. I only know that David and Nancy (Bradshaw McWilliams) Brown have a child, Mary born about 1811. Also there was a Mary Guernsey 1777-mar 16 1850 bd in South Gower Cemetery and married to Joseph Brouse, 1769- Mar 12 1851, KRRNY, bd South Gower. It seems they lived in Matilda Twsp, Dundas Co and Oxford Twsp. Cynthia Guernsey, 1797-1885, and married to Samuel Farrell, 1793-1858 This couple is listed in the ‘Loyalist Lineages of Canada’ page 347. In the 1851 Census for Mountain Twsp, Dundas Co there is a Samuel Garnsey, farmer, born US, Methodist, aged 64 yrs along with his wife Sary, aged 59 yrs and Daniel Labourer, Born Canada, aged 15 yrs. If Daniel and Rachel died in the 1830’s could it be that they are also the parents of these three ladies, namely, Margaret, Mary and Cynthia? It is fairly certain that they were related as they are found living/buried in close proximity and the ages seem compatable. In the book ‘Story of Dundas’ it says that David Brown, Daniel Garnsey and his son Samuel were some of the very first settlers in Mountain Twsp, Dundas Co. This Samuel had a grist mill in 1835 in South Mountain and sold it to Shaver and Brouse If you are interested, I do have more on later generations. Please feel free to contact me.Hope this is of some help to you. Alice

Re: GUERNSEY, Daniel & Rachel
Thank you for your reply. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Joseph Brouse and Mary Guernsey in the South Gower cemetery are my ancestors. Years ago, another Brouse researcher, doing research on the Guernseys, said that Mary's parents were Gideon Guernsey and Rachel Jones. I can't find the list of children she had for Gideon and Rachel right now, but I believed there was enough of a match for me to assume that it was the same family. The Daniel Guernsey family is listed in the Garnsey/Guernsey family history, but it doesn't seem to include Mary (who married Joseph Brouse). Do you know any descendants of Daniel and Rachel I could contact for more family history? Thank you so much for your information! Marcy

Re: GUERNSEY, Daniel & Rachel
My 3xggmother was Rachael Gurnsey, the 5th or 6th child of Daniel and Rachael. She married Phineas Pelton in 1816 in South Gower, Ontario. They had 7 children. I believe they are buried in South Gower cem.

Re: GUERNSEY, Daniel & Rachel
Hi Jack, Do you have any information whether Daniel & Rachael had a daughter named Mary, born about 1778? I have a copy of the Garnsey-Guernsey genealogy which mentions Daniel & Rachel and their children. Mary is not mentioned. She married Joseph Brouse and they are both buried in South Gower. The Brouses were originally from Dundas Co where Daniel & Rachel lived, so it is reasonable that Mary was one of their children or related to Daniel in some other way. Any clues would be appreciated. Thanks!
