Merry Chrsitmas everyone.

Is anbody researching the George Morris family of Matilda?

This Morris family lived close to William Cook (Rachel Shaver McGinn) and John A McGinn, an uncle of my GGF John McGinn raised by William Cook as a stepfather.
I have not found any McGinn children from Rachel Shaver's first marriage to Daniel McGinn in 1824 other than John and Eliza McGinn who were with William Cook in 1842.
However the 1901 census shows GGF John McGinn with a sister Mary Morris and indeed there is a Mary Ann Morris buried in the McGinn plot in Orillia.
She was born about 1826 and died Aug 1905.

Hi Satch
The complete record I have as a member of Ancestry. The obit does not tell much either, just a mention. 1905 BMD registrations were done in a horizontal 2 page format and they really were not terribly helpful as registrant was often an attending pysician.
We just want to rule out that Dundas Morris family since the Cooks and McGinns were so close.
Briefly we think Mary Ann Morris was married to James Morris s/o Capt John Morris and Ann Jane Clark. Mary Ann and James are in the 1852 enumeration in Kitley shown living in a separate dwelling on John Morris's farm.
1871 they were in Escott where John and Ann Jane had moved 1865. 1881 both were in Orillia but sparated. 1891,1901 I could not find them. James died 1910 buried in Lake Eloida Athens area.Actually 1901 Mary Morris was enumerated in Toronto with recently widowed John McGinn as his sister...but that could be wrong! Many parts of that enumeration were!
Thanks again!
Rob
Mary Ann is in our plot in St Andrews-St James Cemetery Orillia. No stone, just in the record/register.

My mothers family comes from Mariatown, the Duval family. but it is a cook in my father's side I am trying to find.
Hugh Workman married a Almira (almyra)(elmira) cook born abt 1848 d/o Peter Cook born abt 1822 and wife Eliza (Betsey)Jane Knight(Night) born abt 1829. Wondering if his father could be Jacob Cook married to a Cornelia Crowder born Aug 7, 1781. If I can link Peter Cook to Jacob Cook I can link back two more generation. Any help would be appreciated. I have basically all my gggrandparents now trying to work farther back

Hi
I am assuming Mariatown is in Williamsburg.
From Lynne OBrien Cook's genealogy:
Jacob Cook married Cornelia Crowder 20 Mar 1804 Williamsburg.
Jacob was the son of John Cook jr of the UEL Cook family. So he is not my line. His son Peter was born 09 Apr 1815 (Liber A) but Lynne has nothing further on him .
I checked my transcriptions for the Eastern District: Peter Cook m Eliza Knight 23 Feb 1841 Rev Joseph Sawyer, Wes. Methodist, P 29. Wit. Robert Lowry and Charles Crowder
In those days no parents were given normally. It does say Peter in this case was of Matilda.
The only other Cook families in Matilda early on in addition to my Irish family were English origin. John and Maria
And Anthony E with Joanna.

In the various census they, Peter and Eliza, are confusing and the children do not seem to add up but maybe second names were used?
They also seemed to move frequently but mine is just a glance so maybe wrong families?
1871, Edwardsburgh, a widow is staying with them and it is likely Eliza's mother but the spelling in that enumeration is very much wanting! Looks like "Laurie Niahgt"
A Peter COOKE died in Frontenac, Oso Tp 17 May 1887 but I cannot make out the informant of "Clarendon Station", but likely a son. Could there be an obit for him?
Sorry I cannot answer your puzzle!

Surnames: Duval
hello

My ancestors are buried in the cemetry at Mariatown Although my last name is spelled Devaul, it was originally spelled Duval. My grandfather was James Edward Duval and his father was Edward Duval. Do you think there is a connection with your heritage?
It would be great to learn more about the Duvals of Mariatown. I beleive they were originally Huggenots from France, exiled to Germany, ultimatley immigrating to the US and then to Canada as U ELoyalists.

It would be great to hear from you
Denise

Hi Denise:
I am Patty Workman and I was born in Morrisburg. My mother was Emma Duval she was born in Mariatown. we can get back to Joseph Duval and Ellen (we think she was a Beckstead) and after that Charles Duvall and Molly ( Molly is a form of Mary), they lived in Winchester, Ontario. But I can not find where they are buried, or what state in america they came from.
Grandfather Herbert Duval told my aunt we were related to Medora Duval the opera singer down in the states , I located a Madora Duval in Providence, Rhode Island. I saw where a researcher was looking for her also. But I could not get in touch with her. But I traced Medora back 4 generations into Quebec. Medora had a brother Henry Bonaventure Duval, He died young, and Medora never married she was very old and died in 1983. Now the Bonaventure name is interesting, as I have a postcard that wasn't mailed of Willy Duval's Tour boat at Perch Rock and Bonaventure Island is near by. Willy's grandfather was Peter Duval the pirate, who was given Bonaventure island as a land grant. Peter is buried on the island. I am pondering if there is some connections to the Duval family there. It would be nice if one of the male Duval's would have some DNA done. I would like to solve the mystery before I die. Been researching ancestors for pretty well 20 years now. If any of this sounds interesting give me a message back. Patty
