1930's Photo Mystery

I recently discovered that my grandmothers were posed in near-identical poses, in a near-identical setting, with the exact same stuffed dog, in approximately the same year! I suspect it was the result of a travelling photographer.

Here is the information I have:

Angelina Rochon (nee Aquino) (photo in sepia)
Born 1933 in Cochrane, Ontario

Mona Porter (nee McDonagh) (black and white photo)
Born 1933 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario (died 2006 in London, Ontario)

The pictures were taken in roughly 1936. I'd love to know if other people have similar photos, and have any information on the photographer!
The cochrane public library has a record that may assist you. An estate notice for murtle edith peterson, northland post, 03/04/1932. A wedding announcement for a Henry Peterson, northland post, 1918/08/09. A birth announcement for a daugther, Northland post, 1919/10/24. They do lookups time permitting. They would also have files on the cemeteries in the community. Just google the library ensuring that it is cochrane, ontario. Happy hunting.

Hi there,

I think M. Mastellar in North Bay is my father's second wife. As I never met him I don't want to rock the boat contacting his second family with my questions. I think he did have children with his second wife but I'm not sure. As you can see this could be a very sensitive issue for them.

I did get some information form the sources you mentionned but not 100% sure it's accurate as my current information is quite limited. I do have the border crossing when he was 19 but I would like more information on him and his family.

Are you any relation to any of the Mastellars?

Let me know either way.

Thanks for your time.

Lori

Hi All
Does anyone know who conducts cemetery record look-ups in cochrane district? I need a search of all cemteries in the area as there is no information about a burial location on this person's death record. In particular I am looking for the burial location of:
Myrtle Edith Peterson (formerly Richards and maiden name Thornton)? Myrtle was born on 21 May 1890 in Ingersoil, Oxford, Ontario, Canada (parents Egbert Thornton and Allie Mabel Hill). Myrtle first married John Hedley Richards (who is buried in France) and later Henry Alexander Peterson born 1893 (burial place unknown). Myrtle died on 25th October 1918 in Cochrane, Temiskaming, Ontario.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Deborah

Hi: I do not know any names or anyone 's family that was killed during the Matheson Fire. However I did work for the town of Matheson during the summers for a few years while going to school. In the old Graveyard up on the hill in Matheson there were many unmarked graves, some which at one time had been marked with wooden crosses before the fire and some from after the fire. Most of the graveyard records were apparently lost as when digging graves it was not uncommon to find another. We were told that a lot of unmarked graves existed there because or the fire wether or not it was pre. deaths of fire related one I do not know. Most of these graves were at the town end of the graveyard above the gravel pit.At that time in history it was not uncommon to have quick burials and also unmarked ones.

I'm researching Albert Addison KYDD. He was born Nov 29, 1897, place unknown. The last I've been able to locate was a mention in his fathers obituary Oct 30, 1947 which says Addison lives in Porquis Junction.

Can anyone suggest what other resources might be available to further trace Addison? Possibly find a death record or burial?

I have found the following:
Addision is in 1901 census with family in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
Addison not located in 1911. His father, William R. Kydd is in 1911 census with 3 daughters in Parry Sound but Addison cannot be found.

In 1916 his WW1 Attestation Paper says he lives in Parry Sound.

28 Dec 1921 he married Mary Barr, living Nellie Lake, d/o Edward Barr and Josphine.

Then in 1947 he is in Porquis Junction.

Is anyone else researching this family? Any suggestions to trace Addison Kydd after 1921 would be appreciated.

thanks,
Lyn
Thanks Jennifer. My grandmother is Loretta. My Dad was Ron,passed away in 2007. I've been the genealogy person for years after Nanny gave me copies of family trees that had been given to her. I work on it mainly in the winter. I've gotten lots of articles on Uncle Wilf from Nanny as well. I'd like to send you what I've got on your family so you could fill in some dates; if you wouldn't mind and if you'd provide your email address. Look forward to a reply. Diane

That should have read REJECTED. I don't have any idea re the rejected or no appeal written on the immigration entry.

Thanks for the information this is very helpful. I have a question. Do you know why it states 'No appeal taken' and the other 'REJRCTED'. I am not familiar with any of the Canadian laws for emmigrating from the US into Canada.
