Hi,
Thanks so much for your help. Yes, I started with the Bytown site and gleamed what I could from that and the tombstone pics from Jane and Scott. I also bought loads of info from Osgoode, depleting their supply of Dolan info. LOL. Also got the land records for John's wife, Ellen Cassidy Dolan, but what was legible on them really wasn't much help.
Yes, I have estimated BD's for those born in Ireland and have all the Druin & civil regs for those born in Canada; most of the censuses also. I still haven't placed Francis Dolan, his wife Anne McGovern, and his sons Francis and Michael in 1851, though I know he was here. Son Joseph married in 1848. Ann McGovern Dolan died in 1861, but I didn't find her and her sons in that census. YET! (I will).
My focus is to identify the townland in Ireland that they came from. Cavan is the suspected county, based on the tombstone reading and some of the DC's. But nowhere do I see townland mentioned. I'll keep trying for obits; is there a trick to the searching on google? I mean, do obits usually appear on a certain page or are they usually on the first page?
Meanwhile, I think one of the above sites reflected an index to the Ottawa Citizen; I'll try and see if I can get some dates to play with.
Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.
Cheryl
