Surnames: Lapierre, Rossignol, Davis, Larochelle, Turcotte, Foubert
Hello,

I am looking for descendents of Marguerite Lapierre. I am a descendent of her sister Adelaide (Larochelle). As of yet I have not been able to find the sister's parents (other siters are Henriette (Foubert) and Marcelle (Turcotte)).

Marguerite was first married in 1834 to Jean Baptiste Rossignol (not certain of spelling some records look like Rofsignol). And was later married to Thomas Davis (1852) after being widowed.

I am seeking both information as well as descendents of Marguerite,

Any help would be useful,

Thank-you,
Robbie McCauley

I too am searching for her parents. In her marriage record to JB Rossignol, it is said she comes from Grand Brûlé, which is the area around St-Benoît parish in Mirabel, Quebec.
I have found 2 Marguerite Lapierre born in that parish or surrounding parishes.
The first was born on June 8 1816, (bapt. June 9 1816), daughter of André Brignon-Lapierre (Brignon is also spelled Brillon in some documents) and Marguerite Guindon.
The second was born on 31 August 1809 (bapt. 2 September 1809), daughter of Jean Louis Brignon-Lapierre and Marie Breault-Pominville.
Now a single woman would not have moved from St-Benoît to Bytown (now Ottawa) alone or she would have been married in her own parish.
I am leaning toward the first Marguerite because a son of André Brignon-Lapierre and Marguerite Guindon, named André, lived in the Bytown area at that time. On his marriage marriage record to Henriette Bernais (probably Brunet-Letang), 4 July 1842 in Aylmer, Quebec, it is said that both of his parents are dead. (I couldn't find any other children for this couple.) Furthermore, I can't find any trace of the second Marguerite's family in the Bytown area.

Are you sure that Marguerite, Adelaide, Henriette and Marcelle (Marcelline) are sisters? They obviously knew each other, as they all acted as sponsors at the christening of the others' children. Supposing that the other women also came from the St-Benoît area, I searched for Henriette Lapierre, Adelaide Lapierre and Marcelle Lapierre born between Montreal and Ottawa.
I found two possibilities for Adélaide, namely Adélaide Brignon-Lapierre, bapt. 2 May 1810 in St-Benoît, daughter of Pierre Brignon-Lapierre and Marguerite Gagnier; and Adélaide Brignon-Lapierre, bapt. 22 February 1802, in Sault-au-Récollet on Montreal Island, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Brignon-Lapierre and Élisabeth Plessis-Bélair.
I found one possibility for Henriette, namily Henriette Lapierre, b. 10 April 1822, Notre-Dame parish, Montreal, daughter of Joseph Marsan-Lapierre and Marie Anne Paquet(te).
I couldn't find any reference to a Marcelle or Marcelline Lapierre born in this region.

I hope this can be helpful. If you have any proof that the 4 women are sisters, I am interested in finding more from you.

Bonne chance.

I have spent some time trying to find Marguerite Lapierre’s parents and I have finally been successful.

Marguerite is the daughter of André Brignon-Lapierre and Marguerite Guindon. Also, Adelaïde, Henriette and Marcelle (Marceline) are her sisters. Here is a list of her brothers and sisters, with the dates of baptism. All were baptised in the parish of St-Benoît in what is now Mirabel, except for the last one who was born in Montebello (Quebec). I have verified each one in the parishes’ records (Drouin collection) on Ancestry.

André Lapierre, 11 December 1814
Marguerite Lapierre, 9 June 1816
Jean-Baptiste Lapierre, 31 December 1817
Henriette Lapierre, 2 April 1820
Sébastien Lapierre, 27 November 1821
Ferdinand Lapierre, 11 April 1824
Adélaïde Lapierre, 11 August 1825
Marcelle Lapierre, 26 June 1827
Magdeleine Adélaïde Lapierre, 15 March 1829 (baptised in Montebello (Quebec))

The parents were married in St-Benoît on 25 October 1813. It is possible to find all their ancestors on the PRDH website (http://www.genealogie.umontreal.ca). There are several spellings of Brignon, such as Brillon and Brion. The first to come to Canada had his name spelled Brunion.

While looking at records in Otttawa, it is clear that 5 children came to Ottawa, namely André, Marguerite, Henriette, Adélaïde and Marcelle. I didn’t find anything about the other children or the father.

The mother, Marguerite Guindon, died on 12 April 1829 in Rigaud, Quebec, one month after the birth of her last child. It is possible that the father, André, came to Ottawa (then named Bytown) to find work. There are records of a few André Lapierre who died in Ottawa, but none seem to correspond, according to the dates of death or the age.

Here are some facts about the 5 children who came to Ottawa. These facts are probably incomplete. They were mostly obtained from Ottawa church records.

André Lapierre married Henriette Brunet-Letang in Aylmer (Quebec) on 4 July 1842. He died on 28 September 1875.
Children:
André who died at the age of 5 in 1855.
Angélina Lapierre, 27 May 1859
Alphonse Lapierre, 11 June 1861
Victorine Lapierre, 28 January 1864

Marguerite Lapierre, who married Jean-Baptiste Rossignol, had the following children with him:
Adéline Rossignol, 27 April 1838
Victor Rossignol, 28 March 1837
Jean-Baptiste Rossignol, 15 April 1842
François-Xavier Rossignol, 18 April 1840
Philomène Rossignol, 18 August 1844 (m. Jean-Baptiste Tassé, 6 September 1864)
Marguerite Lapierre married Thomas Davis on 27 August 1852. They had a son Thomas Davis, 28 December 1855, who married Joséphine Chartrand on 8 February 1875 in Ste-Anne parish in Ottawa.

Henriette Lapierre married Antoine Foubert on 6 July 1840.
Children :
Henriette Foubert, 13 June 1843
Marguerite Foubert, 22 August 1846
Étienne Foubert, 30 June 1848

Adélaïde Lapierre married Étienne Larochelle on 4 October 1841.
Children :
Émérentienne Larochelle, 22 March 1843
Marie Erméline Larochelle, 7 January 1845
Adéline Larochelle, 29 September 1846
Édouard Larochelle, 25 March 1848
Joseph Larochelle, 28 April 1850

Marcelle (Marceline) Lapierre married Joseph Turcotte in January 1842.
Children :
Alexandre Turcotte, 14 February 1842
Joseph Turcotte, 22 November 1842
Philomène Turcotte, 7 October 1844
Anastasie Turcotte, b. 26 December 1846
Jean-Baptiste Turcotte, 1850
Théophile Turcotte, September 1848
Marie Marcelline Turcotte, 5 June 1852
