Curries in Huron and St Edmunds, 19th century

Posted: 2 Oct 2005 10:56AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: CURRIE, STALKER, McSTOCKAIR, McSTALKER, GILLIES
In 1871 and 1881 Hector CURRIE and his Nova Scotia-born wife Sarah were living in Huron, Bruce South, where Hector was a farmer.
The couple had at least 11 children between 1864 and 1887. Names were Nina (born about 1864), John (1870), Angus (~1872), Anne or Annie (1873), Jane or Jennie (1874), Neil H (1876), Margaret or Maggie (1878), Edward (~1880), Hector (1882), Sadie (1884) who may have become a Mrs William GILLIES, and Bertram (1887).
Around 1895 Hector, Sarah and some of their children moved to St Edmunds where Hector bought a sawmill in Tobermory. In 1911 Hector, his wife, and daughter Maggie were still in St Edmunds.
Is anyone else working on this family? Or is anyone able to check cemetery or other information locally? I am particularly keen to learn if Hector is the son of Edward CURRIE and Ann STALKER of Kintyre, Argyll, Scotland.
Thanks very much indeed for any help that anyone can give me.
Sarah Galbraith
