Hello board,

Just casting a net to see if anyone on the board is a fellow researcher of the HOPKINS family of Tobermory, ON. My great grandfather was Isaac Hopkins (1879-1962). I believe he was born out of wedlock to Mary Ann Hopkins (later Mrs. Henry Bradley DAVIS). Other related families are BUTCHART, YOUNG, BAUDER, GRIEVES, COULTIS, LONGSTAFF, STODDART, and GRAFF.

Drop me an e-mail if there is a connection.

Patricia in Ottawa

A possible?

Marriage: Ancestry.ca
Isaac Hopkins, 28, b Hanover, lumberman, living Tobermoray, s/o John Hopkins & Mary Ann Hopkins, married Hazel Olive Young, 19, b South Hampton, living Tobermoray, d/o Alexander Young & Hattie Bordon?,witn: Donald Gillies, & W W Ramsbury, 11 Sept 1907, St Edmunds, Bruce County, Registration# 005351.
Hanover is near Ottawa so this likely isn't your Isaac.

1901 census an Isaac Hopkins, labourer, boarder, b Jan 1877, is with Edward & Harriet Hopkins in St Edmunds, Bruce County.

1901 and 1911 census on www.automatedgenealogy.com

1881 census on www.familysearch.org

Normanby, Grey South
Mary Ann Hopkins, 26, b Ont, farm servant, Church of Englnd
Isiac Hopkins, 4, b Ont
Working for Henry & Mary A McMahon.

Did not find him on 1891 census. With grandparents? Relatives? He would be 14-16. Maybe working. Dead? No death or marriage found for him on Ancestry.ca

Mary Ann is on 1891 census with husband Henry Davis and two chidren, Margaret Ann 1 and Harriet Elenea? 5/12. No sign of Isaac Hopkins.

HI Satch, -- Many thanks, for the reply. I live in Hanover. It is about, 3/4hrs.drive, south east of Southampton. Plus, all you info, and dates, now give me locations, to search. I'm new at this, and you've given me a starting point. -- Must call, my Aunt, and tell her, the news. The "Young" married in with the "Spears family" also. And that's where I fall into all this. Thanks again, for your help. ---Pat

Hi,

This is going to sound lame, but I was too lazy to go upstairs to get my Dads' Obit, so I tried to search it on here and found this site. I am the daughter of Bill Spears and I have 1 older brother and 1 younger half brother. I don't know how much help I can be to you but I'm interested in this as well. Could you forward on any information you've acquired? Thanks. My email is tdspears24@hotmail.com

I have recently researched the SPEARS families and would be more than happy to exchange my 'tree'/info with interested descendants. I have a copy of the book Hewers of the Forests Fishers of the Lakes, The History of St Edmunds Township from which I retrieved data for my tree as well as a Spears tree that a family member had written. As mentioned earlier I grew up in Tobermory, daughter of Sam & Ethel Craigie so knew many of these families. Your welcome to contact me at j.e.spenceley@sympatico.ca.

Hi Patricia: I too am a great grand daughter of Isaac Hopkins and Hazel (Young) Hopkins of Tobermory! Yes Isaac was born out of wedlock to Mary Ann Hopkins who later married Henry Davis. Isaac and Hazel had nine daughters and I am the grand daughter of their daughter Marion who married Walter Hopkins and are the parents of my mother Gloria Hopkins Smith.

I would love to know your connection to Grandpa Isaac and Gramma Hazel - I can actually remember both of them.

Regards

Holly from Tobermory
