Chii miigwech! This is something I didn't have.

Naukooqua is translated to mean: Top Buds of a Tree. Sophia was born in May 1845

Thank so much!

Naukooqua is translated to mean: Top Buds of a Tree. We always thought Sophia was born in May 1845

Thank so much!

Your welcome. I'm happy you learned something new about Sophia.

I was wondering if you know the translation for this name KONIQUA?

I do have this wonderfulrful book. Donald B Smith sent this book to me as a gift about 10 years ago.

Thank you for suggesting it. He also sent me books by Celia Haigue Brown and John Steckley. My favourite is a very old book written in 1867 call The Chief Cheif by Conrad Vandusen which you can also read on line.

Caty Mike was a Chippewa/Mississauga of the Credit. Chippewa is the Anglicized version of Ojibway (also spelled Ojibwe and Ojibwa). The name Chippewa is more commonly used in the United States and the name Ojibway is more common in Canada.

•Ojibway (Anishinabe) Nation, part of the largest Aboriginal Nation in North America
•Originated from the north shore of Lake Huron, mouth of the Mississaugi River
•There is a word in the Indian language “Missisakis” meaning ‘”many river mouths”.
•The Mississaugas believed they had obtained their name from the mouths of Trent, Moira, Shannon, Napanee, Kingston, and Gananoque rivers.
•French and others referred to the people as the “Mississauga Indians”
