Looking for Paris, Ontario info or relatives of these two people. They're listed as African in Stanhope Ontario census and are both buried in St. Peter's Church, Stanhope, Ontario although the Township isn't sure the bodies are there. There are no grave stones, just a hand-drawn map. They squatted on Lot 5, Con 9 in Stanhope (where I live today). He was said to have been a "right hand man" to Joseph Brant and a man of extraordinary horsemanship and veterinary skills. Would love to solve this mystery!

Thank you for the info. I have some of it and actually live on the land in Stanhope where the Morey's settled when they moved from Brantford. I'd love to find any relatives, or someone searching the same family. They're buried here in unmarked graves.

Paris is 5 miles west of Brantford. My grandfather's brother(gr. uncle Isaac Miller) was married to Elizabeth Morey of Burford, she was the gr.gr. granddaughter of Joseph Brant by his third wife. She was african/indian same as my mothers family the "Miller's" of Burford. Elizabeth is buried in the Congregational cemetery in Burford Ont. as Elizabeth Miller,a lot of her family was buried in the old Morey burial ground on Bishopsgate road which has since been abandoned, but the headstones have been moved and set up in a lovely surrounded cement wall in the village of Falkland just north of Burford on Bishopsgate road. One of her brothers is buried in the old pioneer cemetery right in Burford his name was Elmer, he had a brother William who was my grandfathers best friend and neighbor. William lived at lot 9 con.4 Burford right up to 1964. Ed Dukes, Woodstock Ontario

Sorry, Elizabeth Miller was the great grand daughter of Joseph Brant not gr.gr. Mary Berry of Paris Ont. who was a sister to Elizabeth lived to be 100 years old, there is an article about her and the Morey family history on page 17 of the Brantford Expositor dated thursday august 29/ 1968. Hi Ed . Do you know where William Morey passed ? Was it at home or hospital as I reside at that farm. Any interesting stories about the place would be appreciated. Thanks Lisa

Brenda, I could not find a record of where William died, however I would assume as he died in the sixties it was likely at one of the Brantford hospitals. His tombstone is in the Burford pioneer cemetery just to the right as you drive in. Do you mean you reside at the farm in Burford or Peterborough? Ed Dukes, Woodstock
