Thank you for the alternate name of the cemetery.

Do you, or anyone else out there, know what the law is regarding access to and maintenance of abandoned cemeteries?

Also, which RC church was the cemetery affiliated with and if the First Nations designation real, ie. official?

Thanks,
Linda

Hi, If land owners have given permission -you should be able to visit the Cemetery -
If the caretaker - will not allow - same then land owners should be contacted Perhaps you may need to prove a family connection. Some Cemeteries have been damaged by persons -person just wandering - cemeteries - not being careful - and perhaps damaging some of the headstones

Hi,
Have contacted the township office. The only info they have other than the Michigan address for the current landowner, which I already had, is the phone # for the caretaker. He was not at all helpful when we went there a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion,
Linda

PS. If you or anybody out there knows where I could find an old map of the Spragge townsite around 1930-40, I would really appreciate it.

Hi sstanger1,

She is Marie Robillard (1848-?) who married Horace Ducep about 1869 in or around Barrie, Ontario. If their marriage record exists, FamilySearch hasn't put it on line yet.

Marie was born in St-Lin, Quebec and her parents were Jean Baptiste and Felicite (Mercier dit Lajoie) Robillard of St-Roch-de-l'Achigan. Horace's parents were Joseph and Julie (Fontaine dit Bienvenue) Dieppe of Varennes, Quebec. Another researcher of this family told me Julie is of royal ancestry.

Joseph and Julie lived in Pittsfield, Massachusetts for a time during the 1840's. Horace was born there about 1844. Find them there on the 1850 census under Derseff. This family was very tough to research and trace due to the great number of spellings of their surname. I have more info if you need it.
