Thanks,
What I do know is that Josephine Lafond married William Henry Allwell in Saulte ste Marie, Chippewa co, USA on April 19 1836. They have two daughters. Marianne born 1836 and Henriette born 1839 (baptized in Wikwemokong). Marianne married Francois Thibeau (son of Pierre Thibeau and Angelique LaPrairie). I don't know where Henriette ended up. Josephine's father is Joseph Lafont who worked for the Hbc as a trader living around Saulte Ste Marie (both Algoma co, and Chippewa co). He at one time lived in the "old stone house". We don't know anything about his wife (Josephine's mother). He is married in the 1870 census but to a young indian girl named Marie. So if anyone has information about Joseph's wife ( I think her name is Angelique) or Henriette or anything at all I'd be greatful :)

The following were the whites and half-breeds families at or in the neighbourhood of Sault Ste. Marie on or about the time that the Robinson Treaties were made (1850), according to Joseph
Wilson Esq., ex-collector of Customs - who had been a resident of the place for more then 45 years and intimately acquainted with the people. It is from one or other of these that most of the
half-breeds on the Indian Annuity Paylist are descended.

Does anyone know who Joseph Lafond's wife was who mothered Josephine Lafond (who married William Henry Allwell). Or any info about Josephine and William Allwell? We know they were married in Chippewa County MI. Can anyone find them on a census record together?

The HBC trader Joseph Lafont you mentioned: was likely the Joseph Lafond who married (Marie) Charlotte Livingston on 29 Jan 1827 at L'Arbre Croche (Harbor Springs), Michigan. At the time of their marriage, several children are mentioned in the record. Including: Louis, Benjamin, Josette, Marie Louise, Francois, Olivier and Alexandre. Those also noted on the record as witness was Francois X. Biron of the early Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario history. Francois X. Biron did serve with the HBC and operated out the post at L'Arbre Croche. After the War of 1812, Biron relocated to Sault Ste, Marie, Ontario. Its possible Joseph Lafond worked with Biron and had relocated to Sault Ste. Marie after the 1812 war and/or about the same time.

The Joseph noted on the 1870 census is a youngest son of Joseph noted about. This Joseph married Angelique Gagaiosh.

I hope this helps.
