Alex Lambert was my fraternal grandfather. As far as I know, he was born in Trois Riviere Quebec.
One version is that when his parents died he along with his siblings were put in an orphanage by their uncle who was a priest. Apparently the family had some kind of shipping business. He ran away from the orphanage when he was about 12, and went to New York State in the USA. I don't know if he became a US citizen. Another version is that his family moved to Utica? New York when he was a young boy and he grew up there.
It was said that he was on the wrong side of the law for quite a few years, and when he left that way of life, he came north where he met and married Albertine Larue. This is when he changed his name from Dubois to Lambert. There was a wide spread in their ages, even though the marriage licence says only 4 years.
I don't know how much of this is fact and how much is fiction, but I do remember that he could be very polite with perfect manners, or he could be as rough as they come.
He died while living at Kirby's Corners in 1957.

Marriage record from Druoin Collection

Achille Alexandre Lambert, 24, living Massey Ont, born Logansport Indiana, lumberman, Roman Catholic, s/o Gideon Lambert & Luella Grownes? married Albertine Larue, 20, living Massey, born Pembroke, d/o Jean B Larue & Emilia Caron, witn: Frank Ranger & Alfred Brisson both of Massey, 24 Jan 1912 at Massey.

I just checked Google and yes, there is a Logansport Indiana.

1911 census Massey
Albertine is stepdaughter with John and Adelia LaFrance. but I don't see any Lamberts.

You can get your grandfather's death registration for a fee and it should give you his place of birth, birthdate and parents.

Found a Gideon D Lumbert on 1880 US census in Berlin Coos New Hampshire. He was single and 19 years old.

Armand was my dad, so I knew the family, but not the secrets. John LaFrance was both the father and the step grandfather of Amelia. Amer should be Omer. Delfin should be Delphis. Alfred was James Alfred and he drowned as a young man. Louella Florida (Flo) was born in 1923, Edward was born in 1926, and Margarite Elaine was born in 1928. Lillian was born some time later, sometime around 1934. There was a baby named Rose who died, but I do not know where she fit in the family.
According to my grandparents marriage certificate, there was 4 years between them, but there was at least 12 years. It also says that he was a resident of Massey, but he was not there very long. I wish I knew where he was and what he was doing for those lost years.
Thank you for filling in some of the gaps, it is encouraging.

This is so very interesting. Thank you for filling in so many gaps. There still is the time from when he was 16 to 26 that is unaccounted for, and I wonder why he changed his name from Dubois to Lambert?
He was a logger but I did not know of him working on a train. My dad was also a fireman on the ACR. He lived on a farm in Searchmont where he raised a family with his wife Albertine Larue, who died in 1963 at the age of 71. They were separated for many years. He later lived in Northland and then Kirby's Corners where he died of cancer. I believe he was 87.

I just remembered, there was another son, Archie Alexandre (Art) who was born just before Lillian I believe. When I look at the family names of my grandfather, I now know where my aunts and uncles got their names.
Are you related in any way to this family?
