Re: Descendants of Capt. George Cleveland of Hudson Bay
Hi Marlene -
I'd love to exchange information with you on this family. Below is what I have to date on Abraham. Feel free to email me as well at cbaer(*at*)vineyard.net.
Abraham Tagornak was born in the early 1920s (?) between Igloolik and Repulse Bay. His mother was Lea/Leah Angnauyak/Angaujaq/Arnaujaq and his father was Qovik, although his biological father is uncertain - it could have been Capt. Cleveland or Qovik. He had a younger brother, Phillip Kripanik. Tagornak lived in Repulse Bay and died June 2007.
He was married Leetia/Litia/Letia Kunuk (1928-1988), a Repulse Bay sculptor.
He was a linguist, an Anglican Lay preacher, and a father of twelve. He has taught himself to read and write in English, and enjoyed literature. He told Inuit legend stories, was a hunter, provider, environmentalist, and served as a social worker to some Inuit. He was respected and sometimes domineering. The family moved to Churchill, Manitoba for a period where he worked for the provincial government. They returned to Repulse Bay in 1964.

Re: Descendants of Capt. George Cleveland of Hudson Bay
Hi,
My name is Ducas Milortok, and My Grandfather was George Cleveland, and my father (who passed away 4 years ago) was Philip Kripanik. My uncle was Abraham Tagornak.
I don't have much information about my grandfather, as my father did not have the oppertunity to get to know him very well. However I would like to find out more about my grandfather's history. If you have anything you can share it would be much appreciated.
Thankyou very much, Ducas Milortok

Hi Ducas - Great to meet you! Send me your email address (you can email me at cbaer@vineyard.net) and I'll send you some articles I found written by Capt. Cleveland in 1924 that you should enjoy! I've heard many nice things about your father, and I think I have a photo of him with his brother, which I can send you if you're interested. Are you from Naujaat? Take care and thanks for writing! Chris
