HATFIELD, Arthur - 76, died December 25, 1998, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital where he had been a patient for one month.
Born in Boston on February 16, 1922, he was a son of Sam and Frances Hatfield, Yarmouth. He was a veteran of the Second
World War and had served overseas in combat. Among his seven medals for wartime service were the Italy Star, the 1939-45
Star, the France and Germany Star. His involvement in the military continued after the war and he was the last regimental sergeant major for the 14th Field Regiment. In civilian life he was a plumber with several Yarmouth firms and retired from J. Quickfall and Son. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, was active on various committees and was vice president of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 61, Yarmouth. Surviving are son, Fred, Yarmouth; brother, Fred, United States; sister, Shirley Ann (Mrs. Ken Goodwin), Ontario; his companion, Cassie Robicheau, Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his wife, Freda. Legion service was held in Sweeny's Funeral Home on December 26, Rev. Gerard MacInnis and Rev. A.D. (Bill) Newell officiated. Spring committal in the family plot, Mountain Cemetery, Yarmouth. Donations to Canadian Liver Foundation or any charity.
