Our lineage goes back to Donald MacLean, born on the Isle of Skye (probably Dunvegan). His brother, John, came to Cape Breton abt. 1828 & Donald in 1841. John settled in Pleasant Bay & Donald, after briefly living in Pleasant Bay, moved to Pollett's Cove, a short distance N. along the coast. Duncan is descended from Donald's oldest son, Angus & myself from another son, Donald. We are 1st cousins, twice removed.
Do you have birth/death info on Mary Lutz.
Angus

Mary Ann appears to have gone by the Lutes spelling
as did most of her siblings and parents.

Mary Ann Lutes b. 1868 Shediac Parish, Westmorland, New Brunswick; d. 1 Sep 1920 Dingwall, Victoria, NS
(death source: www.novascotiagenealogy.com

Duncan's death record is also on that site.

It was record below, though, that made me realize that I had the right Mary Ann Lutes and married to the right Duncan McLean. The Wm F. Wiltshire, brother-in-law, married her
sister Lillie and I already had their information.. and it led me to their 1890 Massachusetts marriage record found on www.familysearch.org - she was recorded as LUTTS.
I could never figure out how she came to marry someone from Cape Breton when she was born in NB and her parents and siblings had all immigrated to Massachusets - UNTIL I realized that he was back and forth across the border.

Thanks for all the information, Shirley. I did locate the marriage record but the records of their deaths at www.nsgenealogy.com is no longer accessable, it seems. (This is typical of this site). I would appreciate it if you could provide me with the dates of birth & death, place of death, date of burial & cause of death (if stated on the death certificates) for both Duncan & Mary Ann.
Also what was Mary Ann's mother's maiden name?
Angus

hi Angus - their records are also on familysearch.org but not the original records as on novascotiagenealogy.com
They are there.

type in Duncan McLean with specific year 1917 - nothing else.
they have him dying in Baddeck but it was Dingwall.

As for Mary, she is "Mrs. Mary McLean" so just type in McLean 1920 and hers will pop up.

With nsgen, one has to be creative because there are a lot of transcription errors and place errors.

Mary Ann's mother's maiden name was Ann Clarke born 09 May 1841 Huntingdon, England; d. 02 Jul 1914 Malden MA; bur Forest Dale Cem., Malden.
Her husband, James Thomas Lutes, died 20 Sep 1902 Malden; bur Forest Dale.

Their death records are also on familysearch.org with originals. The Lutz line was one of the original founding families of the Westmorland Co, New Brunswick area in the mid 1700s. They were originally from Germany and came into Philadelphia about 7 years earlier and settled in what was known as Germantown, PA (part of Phily).

Let me know if this works.
