I am looking for information on Sarah Jane Bruce m. John Wilson. I'm guessing they lived in the Shelburne area in the mid(?) 1800's. They had a daughter Emma Alice and at least one other daughter(neither one may have been born in Shelburne). They sailed from Shelburne heading east and were shipwrecked and then settled in Liscombe, NS. Emma's sister married into the Mills family(they own a large clothing business in Halifax, NS) Sarah is supposed to be decended from royalty. Any help out there?

Surnames: WILSON BRUCE HARDING
Sarah Jane (Bruce) and John Wilson had at least four children:
These four were baptized at St Luke's Anglican, Liscombe, Guysborough Co., NS on March 13, 1864. They were:
Lewis Napoleon Wilson b. Sept 17, 1854;
Eveline Marion b. Oct 10, 1856;
Emma "Ellis" b. Aug 14, 1858; and
Ella Cordelia b. Nov 12, 1861.
I've been helping my aunt's sister Louise (who is visiting fr England) with her Harding and Wilson family ancestors. Her grandmother-named Sarah Jane (Wilson) Harding - is the granddaughter of John & Sarah Jane (Bruce) Wilson. I only recently discovered the Bruce surname through Eveline MIll's death certificate. Would you like to connect with Louise? I'm sure that your family traditions/details would interest her.

I'm not sure if it's the same one or not but there is a Sarah Jane Bruce in my family. I have Sarah Jane Bruce b. 9 Jul 1823 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia D. 11 Nov 1875 in Liscomb, Nova Scotia daughter of Daniel BRUCE & Adra Jane RYER. There is a lot more if this is the Sarah Jane you are looking for. Let me know if you need anything.
Cheers
Brad

P.S.
Just noticed that this is the same Sarah Jane married John Wilson 29 Feb 1844. I will add this to my tree so it will be searchable for you. :)

John Henry and Sarah Jane were my great-great-great grandparents. I have Sarah traced back a further two generations (Daniel Bruce/Jane Ryer, John Bruce/Deborah Kelley / Konrad Ryer/Abigail Hater). Unfortunately, I am having difficulty past John Henry. His father or Uncle was Robert Wilson as far as I know. Any information you can provide on either John or Jane would be appreciated.

Best
Michael

You might be interested to know that Sarah Jane's Aunt Elizabeth Bruce also was married to a Thomas Wilson and I believe there was a couple living there (Barrington) named Henry wilson and his wife Sarah Chase. No one has been able to connect them but my guess is they are related.

Just received an email from Ancestry and discovered I have a few on the string. Yes, I would love to connect to Louise. I would like to find out if she has any more info on the Mills family in Halifax, and any more details on the shipwreck.
Thank you so much :)

My ggggrandfather and mother were John and Sarah. John's father or uncle, Robert Wilson lived in Wilsons Cove (close to Liscomb and they were members of St. Lukes church of England in Liscomb). Robert was married to Ann and they had no children so they asked John and Sarah to move from Shelburne to Wilsons Cove to care for them in their elder years. John, who apparently was a sea captain teaching navigation in Shelburne, and Sarah, who had a store, moved to Wilsons Cove. The shipwreck is apparently a true story. John ran a ferry across Liscomb Harbour and was Harbour Master. John and Sarah built a house and lived in Clay Head close to Marie Joseph. As a result, they are resting in Fancy's Point Cemetery close to Marie Joseph. BTW, Wilson descendants still live in Wilsons Cove including myself.

My problem is that I am unable to confirm the parents of either John or Robert (his Father or Uncle). I have complete information of the LARGE Wilson descendants of Lewis and Matilda (Meisner) Wilson.

From family members' memory (of whom now have past), gggggrandfather owned land in NY City before moving as a Loyalist to NS. Others said that there were three brothers, Robert and two others. Robert who lived in Wilsons Cove,the brothers in Dartmouth and Kentville.

Can you help with the mystery of John and/or Robert's family?

Best,
Michael michaelclarencewilson@gmail.com

Well Michael, it seems we are indeed cousins. I would love to say I have more info for you, but having moved 7 times in the past 5 years in 3 different provinces, I'm sorry to say, my ancestry paperwork is still packed. I will see what I can do over the summer to get it rooted out from the storage locker we have. Barring that I don't get to do that, I do have an aunt that may have some more info for you. I'll be in touch ok? :) I actually have a cottage in Ecum Secum, but haven't had enough time off to get to it in 3 years. I am hoping this summer will be different.
All the best to you,
Janet(Pye) Noseworthy
P.S. My grandparents were Noble and Gretta Pye.

Hello, I am a direct descendant of John and Sarah (Bruce) Wilson. They were my gggGrandparents. They came to Wilsons Cove NS from Shelburne to care for an elderly uncle or father. Wilsons Cove is close to Liscomb. I can trace Sarah back to Scotland and Germany. John and Sarah are resting at the Fancy's Point Cemetery overlooking the sea.

The mystery is the parents of John/Robert? Why did John and Sarah decide to move to Wilsons Cove? Many clues no confirmation. The names David, Thomas, John, Henry, etc. have been raised in conversations with my family but no concrete evidence.

Lewis and Matilda had more children including my grandfather John Henry (go figure names are past down), other sons Kenneth, Arthur, Augustus, daughters Margaret, Catherine, etc., etc.

The Wilson Family is large and dispersed but many have close links back to Wilsons Cove.

I would be very happy to learn what you or your Aunt's sister knows??

Best,
Michael Wilson
