The birth certificate of David is online and states that he was born July 8th, 1888 in Baccaro Shelburne Co son of John Young Smith and Mary Cecellia Smith. It is a “delayed registration” and has been completed and signed by Mary Smith, David’s mother in 1929.
It is strange that David’s mother registers him as being born in 1888. All other records show him to have been born in late 1889 or early 1890
The 1891 Census which was done in the spring of that year has the family as follows
John Smith age 35, Mary C. Smith age 30
Children: Samuel S Smith, age 4 mos; David K F Smith age 1, Alta M Smith age 6, Charles O Smith age 12.
The 1901 Census shows that family as John Y Smith and Mary Smith with one more son James L Smith age 1. The 1911 Census adds Leonard age 9, Douglass age 7 and Gladys age 3.
Vera’s birth certificate is also there. It has also been completed by her mother and includes a letter from the Secretary of Port La Tour Consolidated School Section #2 stating that Vera Atkinson, age 5 years is enrolled in school there and that her father is Albert Atkinson -dated August 1, 1909
Note: There were several David Kirby Smith’s as far as I can tell. There is yours above who was born in 1888. There is also a David Kirbe Smith II who died in Baccaro in 1915, age 85, (born 1830) fisherman, widower, name of father not given but it must have been David Kirbe Smith. It would appear that he would have been an uncle to your David Kirby. There is another David Kirby Smith who died in 1921 age 76, born 1844. He was a merchant at time of death but had been a Methodist preacher previously. His death certificate gives his parents as James Snow Smith and Eliza Wothern
The marriage record and death certificate of David’s parents are also online.
